thomq: If CDPR is changing forum software yet again, then obviously they haven't been satisfied. So how about they go through all the trial and error first (which does take a year or so at a time), then GOG implements what works best? (I don't understand why that isn't obvious.)
Because GOG likely won't use that forum software anyway. GOG had a lot boards (for all the games here), so any forum software they use will have to be very robust. They also have the site more deeply integrated into the forum software than CDPR does. So a custom built software will offer more control and integrated features than paid for software ever will.
The problem is GOG has been talking about upgrading the forum for years now. Building a new forum from scratch is time consuming and we can see how long it takes GOG to even make the simplest of changes here.
It would (likely) be better for us in the short term if GOG did use a paid forum software like CDPR is using at the cost of deep site integration (at-least until they actually have time to build a new one). The reason being is because we would get something quickly and because this forum software is very very outdated, missing the most basic of forum features, and is likely a huge security risk given how outdated the forum is.
