Hello all,

Just wondering if GOG is considering some form of system like Steams Proton for its game library? I have been slowly but surely migrating away from windows for everything bar gaming, but even here I am trying to get as many of my games running on Linux as possible so I can be rid of windows altogether.

With steam assisting this by introducing its proton system, which is assisting in making windows games playable on Linux machines, it has made me hesitate to buy any windows games from gog, and see if I can get a good price for it using steam for the ease of use using proton to help make it work, and not go through hours using wine, winetricks, etc, to hopefully get the game running.

So, does gog have any plans to assist in making their windows games compatible with linux through proton or similar?
proton is just wine with some additions.
Some games, gog can test (like flatout 2), already have wine-packed "ports". While officially unsupported applications can be launched via any wine-based solution of your choice (playonlinux, lutris, these community-powered scripts from gog forums).

There is nothing to add, really

if a game runs out of the box on proton, there is a 95% chance that it runs out of the box on wine.
if you need any winetricks to get the game to work, you likely need those on proton as well.
The main advantage of proton is the convenience of having wine integrated into the steam client, thus requiring only a mouse click from the user to launch it. Given the lack of a linux client from GOG, I'm not sure how exactly do you want GOG to offer something similar?
Maybe look into Lutris instead. It's basically a game launcher and organizer for Linux. Not without quirks, but it does the job well.
