So, the other night, I was checking out some of deluxe art books which are sold above the 1.000$ threshold and that got me wondering what are the price records in the gaming industry?

Of course, I'm only interested into the prices when they were sold publicly at retail price on day-1 (like the neo-geo cartridges in the 90's). The price speculations on Ebay or in auction houses are not taken into account.

EDIT: It's only about physical editions.

I once sorted games by price on Steam and had a look at the most expensive ones. I must say, they are rather ridiculously expensive.

I think this is not the highest, but I know Turok was $79.99 at launch.

I think it must have been the million dollar edition of Saints Row IV with only 1 copy available.

The original version of Street Fighter II on SNES released at $129 CDN.

If you're talking about regular games, not outlandish PR stunt editions, then Steel Battalion at $200 is a pretty good one.

I always intended to pick this one up, but never did. To this day I'm bummed. As someone who loved the idea of priming the pumps and turning master switch on or what not for all 4 engines of my B-17, I thought it was great that this thing had a startup sequence with discrete buttons...

... not to mention a switch for your freaking windshield wipers and an eject button, complete with little coverbox you had to flip up before you could hit the button.

It had a cool twin joystick set up, something that should be put to better use in todays games.

Another game with a similar name is Steel Beasts, a tank simulator which is meant to be expensive.

I-Racing can get pretty expensive as it's subscription based and have to buy separate cars and tracks on top of that.

Star Citizen, though still in alpha, can cost you over $10k (I think) if you want everything from the get go.

Sims 3 will run you about 500 smackers for all the content packs at MSRP.

Personally for me it's the Morrowind - Collector's Edition, but I have already resolved that I will never own one. I generally don't pay for more than $25-30 for a game, I don't care how good it is.
