Anyone excited that Classic/Vanilla WOW is finally getting an Official Server by Blizzard?

The best part for me as that all you need to do is be subscribed to Live/Current WOW and you get free access to the Classic Server. And this is awesome news for me who still plays Current WOW so I don't have to have 2 subscriptions.

And it is Classic WOW with the old gameplay rules. Its not merely just playing the vanilla content with current rules. So no flying in Azeroth and what not.

EDIT: Its out now.

There should have been a cheaper sub for just classic.

However will the barrens chat work in this age of snowflakes?

Implying the rest of the internet isn't already a Barrens chat.

And I can see them making at least a cheaper offer of just having Vanilla alone.

Perhaps a 5 or 10 dollar difference.
We get to live through Blizzard ruining Warcraft all over again :D

It's like using the replay function to redo a part of the course in one of the racing games from Codemasters only to realize you didn't bring it back far enough. You already know the car is going to crash and burn despite your best efforts.

It will be interesting to see how it will pan out though. It will die if they don't release new content, and since people already know all the content and know how to min/max (kind of) the need for new content will arrive quicker than before. It might also be less social and newbie-friendly than before since it's going to be filled with people who have done nothing but play WoW for the last 14 years. The good memories and atmosphere from the good old days might be toxic as all hell by now.

I will peek at this car accident from some distance with morbid fascination.

The only thing I'd be interested in is the storyline up to and including Wrath of the Lich King being made into a Warcraft 4. I still feel like I was cheated out of closure to Arthas' story when they made it into an MMO instead and now I had to go gather 10 boar tails and kobold droppings and deal with >shudder< other people, instead of just leading armies on my very own, thank you very much.

I am still aching from this long period of lack of news and updates about Warcraft 3 Reforged.
I wouldn't mind trying said vanilla server, though i'd prefer if i could get say a 10x-50x xp multiplier, remove the grind and grow at a rapid pace and experience some of the lore.

I mean, yeah, if they lower the price by two thirds, I'm likely to get my account running and get hooked again. I don't think they will, and that's probably for the best.

If it were regular WoW you would be level 72.

I'd say 30 something by my own experience if I played at the pace I am int . And that's with Heirlooms that give you a XP boost..

Because I can safely tell you that is an exaggeration.
Got my Undead Priest up to level 12 by the end of day one, that was with time outs for levelling professions. Hoping to get to 19 today and get into Warson Gulch.

One part of the experience that is not accurate for an Australian is the latency. People in Sydney are getting 3-5ms, Melbourne/Brisbane 15ms, I get 17ms 50km from Melbourne. Back in my day when Australian servers were actually in the USA we were happy with 80ms and 120ms was common. Obviously the servers are in or near Sydney these days.

Anyway I was there right at launch and I've never seen so many players in one place, literally hundreds of people all trying to kill a few Rattlecages. The day started with 2 Australian servers, by the end of the day Blizzard had bought online another 4 servers, and US servers apparently had to double in number as well. Our initial PvP server reportedly had waiting lines of 15000 people to get in. At least Blizzard were prepared with spare servers ready to bring online if demand needed.

Not into WoW myself.

A ping under 20 is excellent. When I started playing RuneScape long ago I was happy to get under 60ms.
