Greets all!

Does such an mmorpg exist: where players would explore dungeons without rushing, but would need to interact and banter with other players to solve the quests? Being cautious and thoughtful in order to progress, and having the fun of an exploration party. Real opportunities to RP, but not too seriously eh.

Cheers!
A party-based MMO that requires thought (before end-game content) and has people actually playing? I hate to say it but you are in the wrong era.

As far as I know your best bets are private Vanilla WoW / wait for Legacy servers or some obscure 2D MMOs.

I suggest researching starting with the older MMOs to see what's still alive / not garbage and then work your way to the newer stuff until something interests you.
MMORPG is the wrong genre for roleplaying. They are not actually RPGs, but rather, arcade-style games.

Unless I'm mistaken Guld Wars 2 required some player interaction to solve some of the quests. At least that's how it was at the start when everything was new and unknown. I'm certain that now, everything has been discovered, documented and classified in easy to read wiki pages.
Inevitably you'll get lots of players who know the dungeons by heart and want to rush through them. Still, as far as being cautious, interacting with other players to figure out the dungeon and having fun exploring it : that was my experience with several wow dungeons. They can be pretty massive and intricate, and easy to get overwhelmed by. You might find a door you can't open because you need to assemble a key from components dropped by certain bosses, leading to a lot of fun in-game chitchat between the group members.

Blackrock Depths used to be my favorite example of this. The dungeon is gigantic, and it can easily take several runs just to see all of it. With a good group you can easily spend 1,2 or more hours exploring it, and my experience back then was that usually at most 1 person in a group really knew the place. The rest where typically confounded by the sheer size of the place and there would be a lot of discussions about where to go or, say, where to find a key to open a certain door. T'was really good times...

So one bet might be that vanilla wow thing being worked on. What I'm remembering is many years ago - can't vouch for the state of the game currently (doesn't sound/look good imo).
But as for other mmo's, the only other one I'm kind of familiar with is ESO, but so far I've been massively unimpressed by the dungeons compared to wow. It's got other virtues at the latter's expense, but dungeons certainly isn't one of them.
Yes it's as expected. Mmorpgs are not oriented, technically and in gameplay to allow much for party exploration. A pity, cause with a lil bit of tweaks, they could still be a perfect playground for that.
@Matewis Had also that fun in WOW some years ago, and I ve been disapointed in the the dungeons of ESO: they made me post that thread. :)
