I think your good intentions won't hold that long. No one's reading the first post anyway. And... who would enforce your rules? As soon as people start dropping ninjas, others will start complaining again. Hoarder here, bot there, rep is dead because I don't have it... Humanity isn't ready for a thread full of free stuff.

I thought about opening a new thread as well. A thread where I can drop codes randomly. Something like ceemdee's "Free GOGs for pointless reasons". That was an awesome thread! But I think it simply doesn't work anymore, because GOG has become too big to be the little community from three or more years ago. Make a thread where you can get free games pretty often -> people go nuts. Sad but true.

Well, I'm pretty sure it can work. I mean - if a bot gets a game - that's the problem of the guy who put up the game. If he's fine with it, why bother ?

Bots aren't the problem (maybe there are bots... I don't know). The problem is what happens in the thread (rather: what happened in the ninja thread).

- Lots of new members start with negative rep for simply saying "Thank you, I got the game" and the following "Why do I have negative rep?"
- Others lurk the thread and accuse each other of grabbing all the codes.
- Others again start to blame bots.
- The atmosphere in the thread gets toxic and starts to expand into other threads:
- "You got X games for free in the ninja thread, why don't you start playing them?"
- "Even user xyz got downrepped for dropping codes"
- "I stopped posting there because..."
- *click*

Sorry, I don't believe in ninjas anymore ;)

Made a GA with a Kalypso bundle, reached 200, decided to do another Kalypso bundle GA and throw some extra leftovers to celebrate, got downrepped to 188 in no time...So my GA are now outside the big threads.

There is wisdom in your words, but I just wanted to thank you for pointing out to that old giveaway thread.
It really is super-awesome and I hope one day we'll see another similar one. :)
