Was playing Stardew valley on steam using Family Share with my steam friends.

I decided the buy the game, and GOG has a 20% discount. I bought the game today, only to realize that GOG uses a separate launcher. Meaning I would loose all my progress I made on steam. I thought I would get a code to redeem in Steam.

I have not attempted to download the game, and I submitted a request to refund the game to GOG support.

What are the chances I get refunded in real money? or at all?

How long does it generally take for GOG support to reply?

I know its my own mistake for not doing my own research before buying the game, but I should be eligible for a proper refund right?

GOG is a Steam alternative, not a key reseller. They provide offline DRM free installer and optional launcher. That means you can install any game in any of your PC.

If you haven't download it in 30 days you 100% can get your money back

GOG support team works manually, mean you have to contact them and wait for their respond. Just be polite and stay patient cause it's weekend and they work on Polish time.

I think GOG's usual refund policy only applies when your game is not working. But they're usually pretty accommodating if you haven't downloaded the game yet. No guarantees, but you'll probably be able to get a refund. It could happen that they'll offer you credit instead of money back, but if you tell them what you told us, maybe they'll be understanding.

As for how long it takes for them to reply, I'd say usually 1-2 days, but could be a little longer now since it's the weekend.

I dont get the DRM aspect

All I know is that since I used Steam Family Share. My progress is saved on Steam cloud with my Steam ID. Is there a way for me to use the stardew valley I bought on GOG to continue my steam progression?
At first, GOG support try to assist you to find-copy old saves.
Do not use term "differ launcher" in request, cause its wrong. Support probably answer you that GOG do not sell any launcher games and using of GOG Galaxy and even GOG Downloader are completely optional. And so "launcher" cant be a reason for refund.

Disable cloud saves for the game and save your progress again, then find out where Stardew Valley's savegames are located on your harddisk. If you're lucky, they might work with the GOG version, too. But only try that if everything else fails and you don't get a refund.

Game use this folder for saves (that info easily lurked, eg on PCGamingWiki)

%APPDATA%\StardewValley\Saves\

Steam folder - is temp folder for Steam Cloud. At least for most games on Steam (im comp-ly off Cloud back in 2008 and never have saves in that folders for any of my games).

That game is DRM-free on Steam too.

There's nothing on the website that implies that. GOG isn't part of Steam's somewhat monopolistic grip on PC games.

I'd say a fairly good chance, they should be able to see that you've never downloaded it. However, the fact you created your save on the Steam version shouldn't be an insurmountable problem if you're willing to give GOG a go. As others have mentioned, all you need to do is find the save file from your Steam version and put it in the place where the GOG version is expecting to find it.

That would have been my suggestion. Transfer the save, so long as the version of the save is compatible with the game, it shouldn't be an issue other than copying a file or directory.
Was prepared for another "I bought the game on Steam, so GOG should give me a free copy" topic. This was actually more reasonable than expected.

As other users stated, contact support and whatever you do DON'T DOWNLOAD the game since that might make it impossible for them to give you a refund.

The reason being, GOG sells DRM-free games that once you buy and download, it's in your possession. No need to log in online to be granted permission to play, the game is just yours.
