I just found out I can't stream movies anymore, supposedly this is also a new "feature" that's supposed to improve user experience?

I guess it's not a huge deal, because nobody bought movies, and most people would probably download them anyway, but it still kinda sucks that GOG.com wants to sweep this under the rug.

Yeah. Wow. That's a huge deal. I haven't done much with movies yet, but when I have, it's always streaming. I don't like to DL movies.
Crap! Just a couple of days ago I deleted two movies because I decided that streaming works well enough :(
Wishlist item: Bring back movie streaming
This is major bs.Bring back the streaming options.

I hope this is not connected to that Galaxy thingy.I am getting more and more sceptical towards it.

Might just be because they don't have a new proper Galaxy-designed way of doing it yet. The original way might just have been quick and dirty to get something up.

I'm not surprised though. I always wondered why they had it there. HTML5 doesn't have a mechanism for good streaming, or at least I've never seen a site stop connection based on position of player. The minute you start watching something, it just downloads the whole thing.

From my own experience, I didn't finish movies before and I must have downloaded a couple a few times. It was on the lower quality settings. As a site that hosts very large files for movies, I can only imagine how much bandwidth this was doing for them if people were streaming moves in the highest quality and then not finishing them and then going back to them several times.

Obviously this is less of a problem for gog.com than users, but it's still a bit wasteful. Without a good mechanism in HTML5 for download control in streaming, or if such capability does exist in html5 then at least a good one they had written, the way the bandwidth was handled was obviously a problem.

Movie streaming seems to be still available, only thing is that the links are missing at the moment.
Was looking thru some json-files and found the streaming-links. :)
Replacing /downlink/ -> /video/ in movie downloadlink opens the playerpage.

Example: The Art of Playing (576P)
https://www.gog.com/downlink/the_art_of_playing/en1video3
to:
https://www.gog.com/video/the_art_of_playing/en1video3

Worked ok for now with The Art of Playing and TPB AFK.. :)

True. So now the question is: What was GOG's mistake?
That they removed the streaming link from the new "My Account" page? Or that they left the possibility to stream it in?
Subtitles also don't seem to work for me.
Post edited May 14, 2015 by Fesin
I don't know why they aren't there, I hope GOG adds them back. :)

And subtitles do work, had to test this. It appears that if playerpage is served encrypted (https) and browser settings doesn't allow loading insecure/mixed content ( subtitles are loaded from http://cdn.gog.com/**** ), subtitles doesn't show up.

If you load playerpage insecure (http), subtitles work but for me all the players control icons are blocks with hex (icons-file are probably served encrypted, hence it doesn't load).

I really hope they bring the streaming back. I often used it during nightshifts. Can't download and watch movies on my working place computer, but streaming is ok.
The movie section doesn't seem to have received much attention in the redesign. The way the downloader links are displayed makes very little sense: supposedly I get a Windows installer.

Anybody hear any news about this? I had originally assumed this had just been a mistaken oversight with the redesign, but it appears GOG still hasn't added streaming links back. I guess this comment counts a bump then, since I don't have anything new to add. GOG, please bring this feature back. I know most people here use this site for gaming, but if you are going to offer movies, at least give a real movie viewing experience on the site... otherwise what's the point.
On internet men are men, women are men and children are FBI agents.

Also most of gaming ladies on gog dont even know if this thread exist as they are busy in their games.

Wrong thread?
Sorry wrong thread.
Posting from mobile is tedious task.

GOG should bring back streaming feature.
It doesn't effect me as I download movies and reencode them in HEVC format.
It takes time but save lots of hdd space.
Gog should also introduce HEVC format in their video links.
