Looks like you did not even bother reading the whole conversation because things you wrote are totally irrelevant to what I claimed.

Summary: The individual was using linux to download files and were using them on windows and thinking that's any different than downloading them from windows.

And you claim he is right? Well, continue doing it by all means. I am just sharing my 24 years of professional experience, which you are free to discard freely.

EDIT: I am an MSCE, earned my fortune out of how shitty OS Windows is (all of them). And now I am using Linux for the last 3 years, thanks to ADAM here.

ps: I was using windows 7 in 2007. Most don't get what that means.

Well, truth to be told, it is different. That said virus group (worms) uses explorer.exe and auto-run vulnerabilities in order to launch themselves without user's explicit approval and prior to any his/hers actions. If a file was downloaded on Linux a user has one extra opportunity to check it preemptively through "stupid sites" and detect a threat.
But I doubt every downloaded file goes through this scrutiny. :)
