Basically, I am looking for party-based RPGs (has to be party based for reasons that will be clear) that have a specific playstyle. Namely, I am looking for games in which:
* Death can be easily recovered from, ideally as easily as (or easier then!) status like poison once you're strong enough. Furthermore, doing so should not require tedious busywork (looking at you, Baldur's Gate 2 (where characters drop their entire inventory on death)).
* It is possible, and a good idea, to build your party setup around letting party members die and then reviving them; in particular, there should be ways to spec your characters to benefit from character death.
Some exampeles that I have seen:
* Phantasy Star 3 has a spell that revives a character at full HP, and another that kills the caster and fully heals the rest of the party. What's interesting is that you get both those spells almost right away (albeit only on the same character at first, but you don't have to be alive to revive yourself out of battle in this game), and that there are items that cast both these spells for free.
* Lennus 2 has a similar situation; there's a spell (costing only HP) that, if you're skilled enough, will fully revive a dead character (while fully healing a living character requires medicine, which is harder to restore (but can still be restored easily and cheaply in town)) and another spell that kills (or severely injures) the caster to heal the rest of the party.
* Etrian Odyssey 3 has some skills that trigger on death, including a Monk skill that restores the user's TP, and I think Ninja might get an attack. Also worth noting that Ninja get a summon ability that summons a weak character who the enemies are likely to attack and kill, allowing you to trigger these effects cheaply.
So, any other party-based RPGs that support this particular playstyle?
