The other post about fantasy wargames made me think ( yes this is not a pun ) about some of the games i used to enjoy in my youth or when younger

There is this one title which eludes me for quite some time now.

The only thing i can think of that made it stand out was the fact that your mages and healers could be set on autocast which made life a whole lot easier.

If i had to place the game i would say somewhere between Warcraft 2 & 3

Might this short description ring a bell or do you now of other titles that offer similarities plz let yourself be heard.

Thanks

The games drm is not supported on win 10, so you would need a nocd patch. You also need to install a directx version. Executable is 32bit.

I believe I actually own the retail dvd of it, might try it out on win 10 tomorrow.

I have a working version atm which looks quite allright, i'm not entirely sure anymore if this was the game i was thinking about.

I belief another feature of that game was indeed that every unit and maybe even tower could upgrade. I seem to remember a xp bar and the distinct mentioning of level 1 on the unit card which was sighted at the left side of the screen.
I am going to play some more today to see if it might be what i remember though...

If anyone can name some more suggestions

Fantasy RTS, Hero Units, Mages and Priests have an autocast feature next to a regular attack, All units are upgradeable

Tzar

This had hero units. All units had XP and they could increase level by battling and training (attacking dummies). Mages and Priests were present. Not sure if/how autocast worked. Been a while since I played it.

It's not too good. I mentioned it because it fit your time period (between Warcraft 2 and 3), and the XP gain for units, but I disliked the game. The bad AI and pathfinding ruined the experience. Also, it probably doesn't have autocast.

Sound a bit like first Kingdom Under Fire (I remember well how much I liked the fact that priests had auto-heal):

And each unit says "Level X".

Looks like you found it.
