What would bring me to dual-booting linux at home would be an postive answer to the following quesiton.
Can Linux (with WINE) do a better job at playing old games than Windows?
GOG advertises Tomb Raider 2 as explicitly unsupported on Windows 10. I'm unsure exactly why, but given the hoops I've had to jump through to get other games to work in Win 10 it might be something unfixable.
Will I have better luck playing Tomb Raider 2 under WINE?
On tomb raider 2, I check protondb to see if the game will run on proton (proton is basically wine released and sponsored by valve) and over there people say to play it using wine since it works better. So I guess you can play tomb raider 2 on Linux using wine

There are various resources that'll give you an idea of how well a game will work under wine. Here on gog, we have The "Judas does this run in Wine" thread v1.173, where our very own adamhm reported back in 2016 that Tomb Raider 2 works pretty much "Perfect".
There's also the WineHQ App DB, where the results are less encouraging, as the game get only a "Bronze" rating due to issues with keyboard keys being "sticky". It might be that that's a regression, and that by using an older Wine version, you'll get the nearly perfect experience adamhm described. It might also be that there's an external factor that causes that particular issue, and that you'll either have it or you won't.
So, no sure thing, but worth a try.

Also with the 19.3 update my guide now includes a list with a variety of options for using Wine/Proton that also don't require any Wine knowledge :)

In the case of TR2 in particular, I just had a quick look at it using GOGWrap (my generic Wine/Proton wrapper script) with Proton 4.11-11 and it looks like it works fine, more or less. When using the setup tool the main window needs to be moved out of the way (as it did the last time I tested it), but other than that there doesn't seem to be any issues so far.
