So, Steam just went and destroyed their library with new UI.

How about GOG just changing it's library to closely resemble Steam old design (which was the most superior in history of game launcher libraries to date) and atracting some of that angry crowd to your side as well as making library experience of GOG better?
Surely a lot of effort, for so little gain...

Especially when most care more about paying less for similar offerings (no matter where that be from), care more about renting their games, than actually owning them, and care less about DRM-Free...
Well, with this mentality you could justify not doing anything with GOG Galaxy.

As for cost to gains proportion, I don;t know how GOG Galaxy is internally designed, so I'm unable to say how much it would cost to redesign that menu, so it's up to dev team to decide. I'm just throwing an idea into the mix.

Oh, I had not realised you were referring to GoG's Galaxy client (even though you had mentioned 'launcher' in your initial post). I thought you meant the GoG web site (store front) ?. Anyway, seeing as I am not a Galaxy user, I'll withdraw my initial response and apologise for sticking my nose in. :)
The library section of webpage is basically the same as Galaxy version, just without a list of installed games and "downloading" section on the left, so I guess your opinion would also be valid. (But I'm not talking about store front, it's actually pretty decent in my opinion, the Steam has a bit too cluttered main page of the store, GOG store seems to have a good balance between simplicity and information.)
It's funny the Steam redesign had tons of good feedback when it was in beta but after launching for everyone it's seen as a horrible thing. Not sure what the message to take from that is, but it's... interesting.
Not a Galaxy user myself, so I don't really have any position to provide for or against duplicating the old Steam library UI.

That the users don't know what they want, maybe.
