Why should someone pay $5.99 for discounted Rebel Galaxy when he could pay for example 1.39$ for any discounted game and get Rebel Galaxy + that game?
Maybe Rebel Galaxy is not going to be free for the entire sale.
high rated
If you want two copies (say, to give one as a gift), then you have to buy one of them as you can only get one freebie per account.

Or maybe it's a coded message from the GOG staff that the recent controversial pushing of Galaxy isn't their doing, and the server has become a sentient AI which is holding them hostage, and the only way they can get the message out is a subtile hint that we should REBEL against GALAXY!

A diversionary sales tactic? It's (obviously) a trap - yes, I'm sure you already know the meme.

Sounds reasonable.
What if you happen to be someone that owns every single game in the GOG catalogue EXCEPT Rebel Galaxy? That person (assuming they exist) would be very appreciative of the discount. Though...why that theoretical person wouldn't just buy a gift copy of the cheapest game in the sale and get Rebel Galaxy for free...well, reasons...

Maybe someone with extra disposable income wants to support the developer/publisher of the game by buying a copy at the higher price, which is not unheard of. We tend to live in a gamer bubble of always trying to get the absolute cheapest price, but that's not everyone's reality or motivation.

That person could wait till the sale is over and buy at even higher price. Unless 70% discount is just the exact price he wanted to support the developer/publisher for.

We tend to live in a gamer bubble of always trying to get the absolute cheapest price, but that's not everyone's reality or motivation. Some want to get a big discount, but not too big.
The amusing realisation that making Rebel Galaxy your first purchase of the summer sale will net you a second copy of it.
Get Rebel Galaxy by buying Rebel Galaxy.

$1.39 would be spending big bucks...the cheapest option is Postal at a whopping $0.19 USD (which I think may be a record low amount for any game on GOG that wasn't a freebie).
