Could anyone tell me how does the lack of multiplayer in the GOG version affect this game?

Is it like Warcraft 2 for example, where lack of multiplayer simply means that I can't play against other human opponents, but the single player is still a full solid game, or does the multiplayer here have features that wouldn't be otherwise available?

The singleplayer is still a full solid game, BUT it's basically another game, a deck construction puzzle. The gameplay is "start a fight, look what they throw at you, lose, construct a new deck to squeak out a win, get new cards, construct a couple more decks to win with gold stars, get more cards, move on to next fight" rather than "construct a general-purpose deck to be sorta-competitive in the current metagame".

The Linux version ran terribly on my Linux PC, no idea why, the combat timer acted wacky. The Windows version (on Win 7) worked great.

edit: I have steam keys for this that might actually work.

It's a really great game. To be honest I didn't even know there was a multiplayer option that was missing...

It's a bit of a cross between deck building and tower defence (kind of) but it's pretty unique, and very fun.
Thank you.
You unlock cards on every mission by completing certain objectives. Maybe I'm miss remembering, but didn't the campaign have some objectives that could only be completed in multiplayer?

IIRC multiplayer objectives award multiplayer-only cards.
