In the name of the queen.

Empires of the Undergrowth is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.
These ants are truly marvelous creatures. Operating as an astonishingly coordinated hive-mind, they are able to build giant colonies, assimilate certain traits of other ants species, and overpower larger insects to protect their nest. As the manager of an industrious formicarium, you will orchestrate all these activities in real-time, watching your colony thrive with each successful mission.

This game is very interesting, I hope it'll be as scientifically accurate as possible.

tinyE: I wonder if it can be modded to make the ants giant, invade Los Angeles, and then be destroyed by James Arness.
I doubt it. Consider that the original title was "Empire of the Ants", before the developers were sued by Bert Gordon because of this.

He was born on September 24, 1922, and he has the time and the forces to sue the developers of a video game? My goodness.

I love that movie too. Seen it a dozen times.

Don't take me too seriously. At least I don't.
There was also the game Empire of the Ants, based on Bernard Werbers novel of the same name (which was kinda okay, I think)
Never played Sim Ants, but it looks like it was an inspiration of Empire of the Ants with its macro-management. I'm thinking of the triangle where you're issuing an order for the whole flock to prioritize digging, instead of ordering some individual ants to dig a tunnel somewhere.

Looks like Empire of the Undergrowth use a traditional currency system where you need a certain amount of "Food" resources to buy something. Sound more like RTS than pure sim. Which can still be fun, of course!

Thanks for sharing, I didn't know of that game.
Looks cool, I played a Stacraft 2 custom map with a similar premise some time ago.
low rated
Empire of the Ants is a less-misleading title, since the new title makes it sound like you can choose from various types of insects to play, even though you can't.

It also made it sound like you were taking over the planet (like in the movie), not just somoene's back yard.

And don't anyone scream "Spoiler Warning!" That movie is almost as old as I am. If you haven't seen it by now, tough shit! :P

tinyE: Spiders would be boring. Ants are always working so there is always something to do. With a spider, once the web is done, that's it, you just sit there. [...]
Ohhh, poor spiders... Harvestmen don't build webs. They go out into the world to hunt, have adventures, get drunk, learn new songs and woo other spiders. ;D

As of April 2017, over 6,650 species of harvestmen have been discovered worldwide,
I think they deserve a game of their own :)

I actually know about those, and I agree, they need a game.

And on a side note, I love spiders, always have been fascinated by them as well as frowning on people who either don't care or think they are a menace, so it's refreshing to see someone who is also, at least somewhat, interested in them.
Cool! It looks interesting. :)
Looks great. Oh the good old Sim Ant was amazing :D
Too bad this will not have any multiplayer!
