Which OS are you using? (This may help other mac users to assist you)

Did you download the MAC version of the game? (I'll assume it's just a DOS version with DosBox and a mac package, but that's a guess, as there were mac versions of Blizzard's stuff as i recall so this may not be helpful)

What other messages are you getting if any?

Lastly i suppose, is does the program have permission to run? (Mac is effectively FreeBSD Unix with a proprietary GUI, so if the permissions didn't get set then it would refuse to run, (Apple products also don't like when you go outside the ecosystem)

Hi there - you possibly might be out of luck there (at least regarding running it out of the box).
Warcraft II Battle Net Edition being sold here is only compatible with Windows - Directly from the Gamecard: Works on:
Windows (7, 8, 10, 11)
- i also just checked the games downloads and there is no native linux nor native mac version so getting it to run on mac will definitely at least involve/require some extra work/steps

I am not tech savvy. I just remembered this game from when i was a kid and googled where i can find it. This looked legit enough so i pulled the trigger and bought it. I found the Warcraft 2 specific forum and after reading it i guess i cant play it on Mac. I clicked to download it after i bought it but i guess it didnt download. Ill just have to wait for the wife to check it out and see if its gonna be playable for me or if i just tossed $5 down the drain LOL.
thank you very much for your reply though. Im just not sure even what OS im using.

izreal420: snip
You may want to give Wargus a try. Should work just with the GOG setup file as it should ask you for it when trying to run it.

It may not be quite the original experience but about as close as you'll probably get, short of running GOG's Windows version in a VM or something.

Recently i had just built the Warcraft 2 zip file which uses dosbox and is ready to run. I could strip the CD's out and share the shell of the game, and then they put the game in the CD's directory and it should work... maybe...

But seeing as it probably isn't actually installed, then access to the CD images is unlikely so that would be a difficult job...

I'd assume you're using OSX, but that's a guess.

So did you 'install' the game? Or did you just download it? (Installing suggests you ran the executable and the game is available, but seeing as there's no Mac version it shouldn't have run).

Either way, i'd say try to install DosBox 0.74. If you can get that working, then maybe we can salvage all this. Otherwise you might request a refund, but expect to fight with tickets and all that for a few weeks.

https://www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1
Warcraft 2 store page literally says:
Windows (7, 8, 10, 11). Mac is not mentioned.

Even if Mac was mentioned, with their switch to ARM, I would not be surprised if many games would no longer work.

If your Mac is X86-based, you could always install Windows, or maybe try Parallels Desktop.

It's not a DOS game though. It's native Windows.

If you can't get it to work then contact support and ask for a refund stating that the game isn't compatible with your OS.

Normally, I would have asked whether you downloaded the correct files (the ones for Mac - not the ones for Win), but since others have already stated, that there is no dedicated Mac-version available, that question is already answered.

Now - I don't use a Mac and I don't own the GOG version of WC II, so take all this with a grain of salt:

A quick online search led me there:

https://www.portingkit.com/

https://www.portingkit.com/game/1388 (WC II)

Again: I can't vouch for anything, but it may be worth a try.

But maybe some Mac users here know about that program, have tried it in the past, and can tell you more about it?
And if all else fails, you can just turn that glorified Unix box into a glorious Linux box.
