It makes no to me why Steam does that so I agree, it is a pain in the ass and GOG is far more simpler.

You make it sound like it's scaling Mount Everest. In fact, the process isn't hard. People before the Steam era were fine without it, and us GOG users are fine without it (or at least myself).

Download and install DRM-free games on PC. That's it. They're still perfectly playable. Just because one piece of bloatware didn't launch it, doesn't mean it's unplayable.

I've been using Steam since before accounts were mandatory. At this point I'm too entrenched to ever give it up just to be completely honest. I have been using GoG more and more over the years and exclusively for old titles. I still prefer Steam for modern releases as the social functions for games with big audiences are just hand over fist better. I'm considering starting to purchase new release single player games on GoG since they're not as reliant on being connected with other players.

i mean the majority of my games sometimes i play them on steam because my friends have it but recently in some games the support is trash so im leaning towards GoG more and more exclusively for old titles i come across and enjoy even if i wasnt born with the peeps who are older than me and have more experience with gaming than i am but hey i did get GoG before steam so why the heck not

i made a steam account last year and waas excited to buy legit games, only after afew months later, i read an article about drm stuff, and quickly open gog account lol. and here i am waiting for any games that i wanted here to be on sale. never bought any games from steam since last year.

Steam gets better and better as time goes by while GOG gets worse and worse. Haven't seen anything worth getting on GOG for years.

That said the attraction to GOG was always the classic games, not the DRM issue.

I remember when Steam was forced onto me, when I got around to playing Fallout NV. I suppose its provided access to a lot of games for less than the retail hard copy but I try to support GOG at all times. I suppose gog are vulnerable to piracy but I do like the idea of being able to install games from my personal usb should I visit a friends house. Never got around to that with steam games.

Strangely enough, in ten years I've only installed games maybe once or twice from my usb. Most people I know in person aren't into gaming.

Bizarrely, I own almost 500 games on PC, have not pirated a single one of them, and yet have never bought a game on Steam. Neither do I own a Steam account.

Almost 200 of my games are on GOG, the rest are indie releases direct from the devs websites, or from Humble Bundle (the ones that don't require Steam activation) or from GamersGate, before they decided to make most of their games only playable on Steam -- now I don't shop there at all, and haven't bought a game from them in over 4 years. I'm also a big Minecraft player -- again, direct from the dev's website.

Besides, most games I want show up on GOG eventually and, as I have zero need to play games as soon as they're released, I wait until they do. I suspect many gamers who are against DRM or against needing a client to play a game they own do the same thing.

I think it is only someone who doesn't know much about the PC gaming market that thinks people 'pirate' if they want to play games, because there are many many options that do not require a Steam account.

I'm happy for you, but obviously only a very small number of people will be satisfied by 90% indies and old games.

Obviously not remotely true from the many people on here that have said they never buy from Steam.

~700 games here, all legit copies. All running on Linux (minus one, I still can’t run Crimson Skies on Linux, it’s just been collecting virtual dust for years). Never bought anything from Steam.

I use steam for multiplayer games but have gotten to where I dont buy single player game from them.
