Almighty gods of GOG,
I can't think of a reason for not using the better LZMA2 compression of the xz format in the Linux tarballs you're offering. Has this even been considered?
In case you were wondering, it's an already widely supported format or better said has been for some time now.
Based on the experience I've had, compared with yer' classic .tar.gz you can get up to 30% better compression on average for binary files. Think of all the extra happiness (and space) our external storage drives will get should you convert!
[Ends prayer, makes ritual know-how offering: just use the "J" parameter with tar to get that xz magic working]
