Are they mostly older games, modern games, or a healthy mix of both ?

300 is a good number, I have 700+ and most likely won't be able to finish all of them. 300 is manageable though. Let's say you complete 2 games per month, that means you would have played them all in 12.5 years.

Looking back I wish I had been more picky with what I bought.

700+ is a little excessive but it can be done, I hope you don't like achievements in games :P Some GOGer's will be asking the Grim Reaper if they can take their GOG collections with them. :)

My GOG collection is at 244. I have 8 games on the backlog, 9 on hold until I pick up a joypad and 42 uplayed freebies. There's also 9 demos in that 244 so I don't think that should count.

When I first joined GOG, I said to myself I was going to be careful, maybe buying around 50 games and leaving it at that would be fine. I screwed that plan up in the first year........

I only have 98. Just in the past month however I've asked support to remove 50ish games for a variety of reasons (couldn't finish, didn't like, knew I wouldn't like etc)

Of the 98, I've beaten about 40 and love them all

Going to be much more picky in the future about my purchases.

It's a mixture of both, though I'd prefer to get more post 2010 games. But that's the publishers being reluctant to release more modern games DRM free.

Because I see games as a shared family resource and that GoG doesn't restrict access like VALVe does, I'm blissfully happy to buy various games during the sales that my kids or wife might want to play as well.

Why ask games to be removed? Just flag them as hidden. That way they don't get in your way but you still have the option of coming back to them in case you change your mind.

Also, why did you buy a game you knew you wouldn't like? If it was from a bundle, you could always change the unwanted game to a gift code on the checkout creen.

I contemplated just marking them as hidden, but I feel like I know my tastes well enough by now to know if I will finish a game or not. If I can't finish it now, I most likely won't in the future.

And as for not liking, I never purposely bought games I didn't like. I bought several games and they turned out to be games I just could not get into i.e. Grim Fandango Remastered, Brutal Legend, System Shock 2. I would even give them a break and try them again with no such luck.

All in all this mass removal was a long time coming, and something I spent a bit of time thinking about because there isn't enough time in the world to play every game so I rather only play ones I really love.

Hidden games stayed hidden in the old interface when they were a footnote. In the new interface, they're a separate collection conveniently placed for easy access, better suited for hiding completed games rather than turds. I tried "hiding" terrible games and this way they effectively got in my face more; so I unhid them, made a "WHY DID I BUY IT" tag and allowed nature to take its course and get them off my library front page (I have 1556 games as of this writing).

Now, I get why they did this. GOG market themselves as a curated store and don't offer refunds for "games you didn't like", so "hey, look, buying shit games is a common occurrence in our store that we made a special interface option for it" is counterproductive.

It's just in your original post you mentioned games I "knew I wouldn't like", I thought this meant even though you knew you didn't want the game, you still bought it and the only reason I could think why someone would do that is to get the full discount of a bundle. Last year, we had quite a few "buy this bundle for 90% off but if you uncheck 1 game, the bundle is 60% off" type sales. I just thought the two might be related ;)

But what you said makes sense, if you don't have a lot of time for gaming then there's no point in having games you don't want to play :P

I've organized my library a little differently. All games I buy are instantly tagged with "backlog", freebies are marked as "unplayed freebie", games which i'm holding off from for whatever reason (ie. lack of joypad, unplayed prequel, technical issues etc) are marked as "come back to" and demos are marked as "demo". Games which are completed are untagged and games which are absolute shite are hidden.

However, cos you have 1556 games, I can see why you wouldn't do it my way :P. marking all those games as "backlog" will be a chore of itself. I have a library of 241 and my purchases are slowing down so this works nicely for me ;)

I only have 4 hidden games right now: M.A.X 2, Teenagent, Star Wars: Rebel Assault 1 and KKND2. But there might be some crap currently marked as an unplayed freebie :P WIth your 1556 games, I hope you don't have too many that are crap :P
