Just figured a heads-up might be handy.

https://bsky.app/profile/gogcom.bsky.social

There's been a blank new profile on Mastodon and one on Reddit sharing a link to the profile saying GOG is now on Bsky, as with Epic. Not being verified (and seeing no announcement here in the forums by admin) tells me this is a fake profile.

If you don't want them posing as you, GOG maybe time to report it?

Oh well! That's that sorted then.

If only they could verify their account so people wouldn't doubt it. Some kind of URL verification process which is dead easy to do?

FFS. Would have saved some people worrying.

People over at discord worried needlessly, too. One user (thank you Neptuneous) pointed out that the Bluesky account posted the same New Year Sale message earlier than the official GOG Twitter account. For it to have been an imposter would have had amusing implications!

How does this screenshot prove anything? Who is "Prah"? How do we know they're talking about the Bluesky account and not Instagram or X or some other account? How do we know the screenshot wasn't faked?
Mastodon? Bluesky? How many of these things are there? Do they just spring up overnight? I'm starting to think social media are like orks in 40k, hopelessly moronic, destructive and part fungi.

It doesn't prove anything, and isn't intended to. If you want to find out who Prah is, or if this screenshot was faked, go ahead and join the GOG discord, and ask him for yourself. Everything can be faked anyway, so there would be no pleasing you even if I took a cumbersome and unbroken screenshot showing everything and if I were to dredge up all of his personal information. So until GOG makes an official statement, anything anyone here says is worthless anyway. All it says is that there is an increased likelihood of the account being a legitimate one, as one of the staff members within the GOG discord said as much. It's merely the passing of available information, it is no proof of anything.

Well, those two are Twitter alternatives. Both are federated, self-hostable, and don't have the stink of an incompetent buffoon around them.

I'm also there in the Discord server, the image left out a lot of context. Yes, I can say that we found out the BlueSky account posted that tweet announcing the sale two minutes before it went live on Muskrat. So we have little reason to doubt the authenticity of the BlueSky account, it's just that the circumstances surrounding it aren't the best at the moment.
This could help reassure users:

That Demo's a bloody spy

Like everything else, social media is oversaturated. The only platform with no competition is Reddit, but it's one that I wish actually had an alternative. (Off-topic rant) I made an account and couldn't post anywhere, nobody replied to my comments, found out I was shadow banned, made another account, got actually banned, never told why. This happens to a lot of users, especially new. That platform is basically an exclusive club now for anybody who was an early adopter. All I wanted to do was talk about GPUs man.

Why do we need all these social media when gog has a forum and should have communicated on here to inform us and interact.

GOG needs these to gain new users and I'm sure that not everyone vists the forum here

True but social media also brings problems. Many gamers fraud were reason for not bringing a game here and firing of someone for something else. But gog more honest communication on their forum would not hurt.
