Hexplore is a 1998 action adventure game where you control four characters at once. I pretty much liked the game, but it was a bit repetitive, so I think I never got beyond level 5 or 6 (the one that starts out in a castle or what it is with lots of fireball traps etc.)

So. There is a patch for Windows 10. I tried it with my original CD* and it runs fine, apart from modifying the graphics settings during the game (i.e. changing the monitor resolution, switching back when alt-tabbing or exiting, as was par for games of that time).

I don't know where I got the patch from last month, it was some internet forum. I uploaded it here. If this is not allowed, I ask the mods to remove it but please don't ban me, as I don't want to promote piracy, only help people getting the old game to work:

I did not create the patch. Please check with Virustotal before use. To me it came out clean, but NEVER TAKE ANY RISK with downloaded files, especially not exe files.

So I thought maybe some of you want to discuss this old gem, replay it, etc.

I don't have much money currently, so I can't offer anything. But I would love to see someone speedrunning the game. So maybe someone wants to take that challenge for fun. Please, if you do so, in addition to posting here, also send me a private message, if you upload a speedrun. Please upload it as a common file format or on a commonly used video website such as bitchute or Youtube, so I will be able to watch it. Extra awesome would be if you participate on an official speedrun website, but if you do so, please inform yourself first if the patch is allowed.


*The CD is for the German version, it was "ripped" to PC years ago but is not modified otherwise. The patch should run fine with all versions.

I've played the game on one of those old demo/shareware CDs, that had a level or two of the game and then told you to buy the finished product. I was impressed by it, and downloaded a pirated version of the game, but I remember trying to play it on Win XP and never managing to get it running. I should still have the CD stored somewhere if it hasn't crapped out by now, since it must be more than 15 years since. I'll definitely be downloading the patch, but Hexplore is one of the games I'm really hoping GOG manages to salvage.
