Hoping someone out there may have experience with this game. I noticed there is a slider in the Advanced Options menu named "Model Detail". After some testing, I noticed that it resets each time the game is run. Also, when doing some testing with the slider and looking at the config file - there seems to be an entry in the config for every graphics option, but this - no matter what it's set to. Note: this is different from the "curve detail" setting, which changes < seta r_subdivisions "20" > in the config.

Is it possible this slider doesn't actually do anything, and isn't actually hooked up to a line in the config file? If so, is there a way to add it?

At this point, I just set it to high each time I play and "hope" I'm actually playing with the highest detail models. I've tried it high and low and can't really tell a difference - leading me further to believe this setting may not actually do anything.
If anyone happens to come across this someday (including myself) - this is a workaround for it. It makes it so that no matter what the slider is set to, this overrides it. The slider will still reset each time the game is launched, but this seems to be a manual override. I'm still confused as to why this is occurring in the first place. After further testing without tweaking the config, this Model Detail slider DOES work. Most easily reproduced at the beginning of the game, letting the girl walk to the house, and looking at her from afar. With the slider set to low, her hair will be low LOD. At high, she will have detailed hair again. I can't check the config file while the game is running for some reason (it will not let me alt+tab out or anything of that nature) but my guess is it's updating this in the config file, then get's removed or something after you quit. I'm really not sure. But anyway, this addressed my issue, but I will still set the slider to high each time I play, just to be sure ;).

Model detail setting is available in the video options menu, but it can be overridden to force the game to render highest quality models all the time.

Instructions
Run the game at least once, so the configuration file gets created.
Go to <path-to-game>\fakk folder.
Open config.cfg with a text editor.
Add lines seta r_lodbias "-2" and seta r_lodcurveerror "10000" in the Cvars section.
Save your changes and run the game.

You may have to run the game in administrator mode for the config file to be created and the new settings to be applied.
