227: In OP's defense, the PS3 (and 4, I think?) were hacked to run Linux, allowing them to play games not ordinarily available on that platform. I don't think there's anything like that on the Xbox One right now, though, and even if there was, it'd be wildly impractical for all but the most hardcore of users. As in, the ones who would already be aware of the existence of something like that.
The PS3 wasn't hacked to run Linux - it came out of the box able to run Linux in using the "Other OS" function that was included by Sony. The Other OS feature and ability to run Linux was later removed because it is what GeoHot used to hack the PS3 and jailbreak the system. The final agreement was that you could keep the Other OS function but couldn't update the system any longer and it stopped running newer games and couldn't get patches for older games and lost online PSN functionality.
As for the XBox being a Windows machine. The name XBox is a reference to Direct X as in this console is a Direct X Box. It was designed to push Direct X and Windows integration into the living room.
