Both AVAST and AVG now marks GOG Galaxy as Win32:Malware-gen after the update and put it into quarantine, specifically those three files:

GalaxyCommunication.exe
GalaxyUpdater.exe
GalaxyClient.exe

This didn't happen for the first time, I remember similiar thing about half year ago. Seriously, what's wrong with the program though? Is there some backdoor in those exe files?

I too, have had this occur today with the Dec 7 Galaxy update. v1.2.31 update.

Is there ANY possibility that something has compromised GOG Galaxy, or is this absolutely just a false positive? Because it's getting me down (Avast pops up to tell me about this again every hour or so, presumably as Galaxy makes another attempt to update) but I don't want to accidentally authorise actual malware being installed on my (already very sick) PC, which after paying for antivirus software, would make me feel pretty bloody stupid.

Happening to me as well. Nothing works. Antivirus will not allow it to work even when added to exceptions. Cant even play my favorite game Gwent atm because of this shit.

I'm having the same issue. I included a screenshot of my quarantine. Hope this gets confirmed as a false positive. It probably is but I don't really want to take the risk.

I don't actually want Gog to make automatic updates since I mod my games, and updates mid-game can wreck the game. Automatic updates can be a pain even if you don't mod the game. If you had to download these updates for yourself, there probably wouldn't be a problem.

Yup, just started doing that to me. And because it screws up the GUI, I can't get any game that syncs with GoG Galaxy to work, they'll load and crash rather quickly. ARGGGGHHH!!!

Glad to hear i'm not alone with this problem. Just booted up my pc and i'm greeted with an error pop up and avast moved the gog.exe into quarantine.

I had, repeat, HAD Avast for 6 years deleted it today because when I reached out to their technical support they replied
"Please contact the provider for the application, our software has detected malicious content in the updater and put it in isolation, this is not the first time that this has happened with this provder therefore we will not be updating our database to reflect otherwise anytime soon.
I have worked with ESET and Kaspersky on other systems and find the later fairly user friendly and have installed thier free software on my personal system, no more GoG reported as false posative.

Avast is known for all its false positives and flagging even system files on purpose, making the system un-bootable.

Some things you can do:

1. Submit the file to https://virusscan.jotti.org/ or https://www.virustotal.com/

2. Submit a report to GOG. Everyone's systems gets breached at some point. It's just a matter of time and energy, and what kind of gain the perpetrator(s) is/are after. Even an insider could have done it. Luckily, most of the time it's just a false positive.

3. Use another scanner like McAfee Stinger Portable (or another) on the live system.

4. Boot up the computer with Hirens Boot CD/USB / systemrscuecd with ClamAV and scan/clean the computer.

(Addendum: You may need to manually input an updated virus database to those programs, BEFORE burning a CD or copy it to an USB.)

5. Delete those files or Low-format your HDD (if you're feeling a bit paranoid)

6. And lastly: Stop using AVAST.
