...until you finally decide to play them and have a blast because of how good they are.

Decided to create this thread because I experienced this with Bioshock after recently buying it and spending time trying to make the classic version work on my pc. It was worth it.

What an amazing FPS with survival/horror elements!

Do you have any games that you've experienced an internal resistance to play, but when you finally 'let it go' and decide to play it, you leave in wonders because of how good the game actually were?
If you don't get crashes when playing the Remastered version, there isn't really any reason to go with the original Bioshock, the Remaster adds only improvements, no changes.

As for your question, I guess System Shock 2? It had been in the back of my mind for decades, originally just thought it was another "Doom clone", but someone on the forums here convinced me to try it, and it was great (I had to add some mods for myself, though).
Yeah, occasionally I watch something that gives me an itch to play the game it's covering.

"Man, I should get around to playing Thief some time. I'm sure if I pushed myself, I could complete the first level."
"Wowee. STALKER is an interesting game. Wish I could motivate myself to play more of it than watch these reviews."
"Jagged Alliance, eh? I own that. I should actually bother to get past the first screen."

And every time, nada. Hell, last game I played was a few days ago. Pillars of Eternity? More like... Pillars of Eternally buying this game three separate times and Deadfire twice, please keep making good games Obsidian, I promise to actually finish one of them these days.

Narrator: But he never did.
For much time I was thinking of buying Septerra Core, as I had read about having an excellent plot, but I had doubts due to the extreme enemy respawn. At some point I bought it, about a year ago, but I saw the enemy respawn first hand and I refunded it. I couldn't stand it. However, I’m still thinking of giving the game a second chance, mostly due to the full voice acted dialogues. But I don’t know how to cope with the enemy respawn! If there was a mod to cancel it I would surely buy it of course.
The same about the two Sacred games.
any game that needs the EA app to use = pass

Quern Undying Thoughts. There have been some very flaky Myst clones in the past which put me off the genre for a while, but I found this a far better 'New Myst' than Obduction (by actual Myst developers) was.
Thanks to all giveaways over the years I obviously acquired a ton of games that look interesting and I would possibly enjoy but never came to playing them (but some day will!). And also games I already played and feel slight itch to play again but since have so much new ones these seem more important.

Same. I have trilogy in library for years and basically every new year I tell myself I finally play them. But I think it'll finally happen in 2023, sequel is on horizon and I even finished two Metro games last month so timing seems good.

I have a natural disinclination for online gameplay, but loved the early Halo games so Destiny was always in the back of my mind, but after watching some Polygon videos about it and seeing it for 5 bucks on PS3 at Gamestop many years ago I picked it up and subsequently sank hundreds of hours into it.
I got VVVVVV through a charity bundle on another website and thought it was going to be yet another platformer that I would try once and not enjoy. So far, it's the one platformer that I do actually like.
Witcher 3 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance
My system just so meets the minimum system requirements.
But everyone praises those games and the game-world looks so calling...

So, one day, I bit the bullet. And couldn't believe just how immersive and detailed those games indeed are! Screw 20fps, I'm a riding my horsey though the countryside!

That's a poetic experience. :)
