Syphon72: Is there reason the first game is being skipped?

Nergal01: SH 2 is THE standout game in that series. Completely overshadowed the first game, which is also great in its own right.

That said, a remake of 3 wouldn't make much sense without part 1, since 3 is a sequel to 1. 2, meanwhile, completely stands on its own.
That's true, I'll have to look up the sites that mentioned SH3 being in production, might have mixed something up. :D

Now if GoG only could convince Konami to let them either bundle this with or list the PC port of the 2002 "Restless Dreams" Director's Cut alongside it, for the purpose of preservation.

That's what I was thinking. It be weird to remaster 3, when it's a sequel to the first game.

Sad they skipped the first game.

That might be impossible. According to news back in 2012, Konami lost the source code for Silent Hill 2 and 3, thus the console remastered bundle of the time was lacking: https://gamingbolt.com/konami-lost-the-source-code-for-silent-hill-2-and-3-resulting-in-hd-collections-poor-quality

They could just copy the game off of an original physical copy - as they probably have done before with other re-releases where the files couldn't be provided by the publisher or developer - and go from there, no?

I don't think that works. The files on the physical copy are encrypted and protected, otherwise it would be very easy for anyone to access the source code of any game out there.

The modders already got the old Silent Hill 2 working on modern computers with Enhanced Edition mod with some improvements... they don't need the source code for a old Silent Hill 2 GOG PC release.
Deliver us Mars just lost Denuvo.

They don't need a source code to release an existing PC port. No, the real issue with Silent Hill 2 and 3, is likely legal (the voice actors).

Just looked up the game Hibernaculum on steam and found this (see picture).

btw: The search function doesn't work for me so I couldn't look whether the game was already mentioned here.

As I recall, the voice acting rights were only an issue with 3.
