dedoporno: If people allowed a tie between 2 or more others without resolving it one of the non-tied players goes.
Ha! took me a few reads but now I understand I love it.

Because the laziness displayed with that EoD defense would be a huge stain in their repsheet.

You're focusing on the risks of "gaming the system" this system would have on the last few hours before EoD and forgetting the impact it would have incentivizing discussion through the whole Day.

You also haven't given much weight to the distinction I made of someone at EoD posting an actual reasonable defense of themselves instead of lazily pasting a copy of Hamlet in the thread. The former gets some cred for the effort, the latter might survive until the next Day but they're not winning anyone's credibility that way. Night actions notwithstanding, coming Dawn they haven't stopped being among the most suspicious players and if by next EoD they get into another tie you already know that they aren't going to put any effort. So the risk that someone that is voting their opponent would consider laziness enough of a reason to untie them is quite real.

You said the system I proposed encourages quantity over quality. Doesn't the current system encourages lurking? How can one display quality if they post a mere 5 sentences per day? With the proposed system, if one manages to show quality despite fewer posts they will simply not be voted into the tied lead. Only if they are among the considered most scummiest their low word count gets to be a problem.

The current system encourages neither quantity nor quality. It encourages people to say the least possible, especially if they are scum.

That's my question: why would it be a stain? Why would you hold it against someone trying to save themselves from lynch in the only way possible?
Didn't see your question, dedo. Bump please?

Because of the contrast between the effort of explaining the stuff that made other players suspect them and the laziness of copy-pasting whatever shit just happens to raise their word count past the other lynch candidate. I don't think I need to explain to you why the other players should consider the former more desirable to Town (and to the game as a whole) than the latter. If the player isn't interested in attempting any actual defense for themselves, I don't think they will put work on catching scum either.

He tried. Didn't work. 10 mins left. Many are not even online.

Did you get that I'm talking about the difference that both approaches will have on the following Day, rather than saying "in the little time before the lynch is settled only one is guaranteed to make other players unvote the guy who tried hard", right? Because the fact that people are or not online at EoD doesn't factor into what I'm talking about.

I'll approach this from another angle.

Scenario 1: It is EoD2 and Guy A is about to get lynched, but tied. He posts a veritable defense that happens to pass the threshold for his survival. Dawn comes up, his defense is thoroughly examined and judged accordingly. He may or may not be able to convince anyone.

Scenario 2: It is EoD2 and Guy B is about to get lynched, but tied. He posts a bunch of garbage that easily passes the threshold for his survival. Dawn comes up, the other players will look at that drivel and conclude that that player isn't really interested in putting the same effort that Guy A did.

Please don't tell me both scenarios are going to play the same during D3. If anything, one of them provided stuff for other players to pick apart and be more certain of their alignment.

Sure, but I'm talking about a different scenario: You come with 10 mins before dealine. Very few people online. You're tied.

You do the only thing that can save: post a wall of text.

Would you hold it against them next Day?

-----------

That's why I don't like this idea. It allows a player to directly pull themselves out of a tie, so it becomes a contest of who's online at EoD and can pull themselves out fast.

Player's shouldn't be able to directly pull themselves out of tie because then they will... pull themselves directly out of tie.

With random.org (or any other suggestion, like who's first or dedo's Survival idea), a player cannot pull themselves out directly: it's always someone else who decides, either other players or blind random. So players *must* rely on trying to convince others they're Town if they want to get out of tie.

"Sorry, I posted wall of text because I wanted to survive and was out of time. But here is my defense now..."

It occurs to me I'm currently reading walls o' text...like a boob.

ZFR: Would you hold it against them next Day?
Technically, no. But I wouldn't hold it in favor of them, either, like I would if they had posted analyze-able content.

So they will get a chance at another Day. Okay. They're still the most suspected player (together with however many were in that tie minus one), they will probably have to work hard into gaining the others players' trust. Without the small boost in standing that posting better content would have given them.
I need a bump, please.
going through this, what does "brutal" mean? https://www.gog.com/forum/general/gog_mafi...nup_game_54/post127
how would it work in-game?

Brutal prevents a flip. This means that the mod will announce "X is dead" without saying X's role or faction.

In some variants the Brutal killer only prevents the role from being known, but faction is still announced. And yet in other variants, the Brutal himself is told the PR and/or faction, but nobody else is.

The first one is the Correct one.
Thank you both! (And Book for answering in the QT!)

Yeah, I still use that as the "Definitive QuickStart Guide to Mafia Roles" (minus Vig) to this day, and have referenced it many times. So, thank you!
