I have no idea whether this type of thread is already done but I thought it would be swell to have a thread about favorite phrases or quotes. From video games, songs or movies.

It could even be something that's relevant to what's happening here or just a classic quote, say by Mark Twain or it could even be a quote you made up. Here's my favorite of the week:

"I want a revolution
You want a short solution
We never could see eye to eye"

- Van William "Revolution" (song)
Four musketters with Michael York and Charlton Heston. "his eminence is a great player, great enough to lose. I do not like to lose." Lady DeWinter
"Men who are unhappy, like men who sleep badly, are always proud of the fact"
Lt. Aldo Raine: Yeah, they made that deal, but they don't give a fuck about him. They need you.

Col. Hans Landa: You'll be shot for this!

Lt. Aldo Raine: Nah, I don't think so. More like chewed out. I've been chewed out before.

- Inglourius Basterds
"There once was a man from Nantucket..."
Setting well in order, push off and smite the sounding furrows!
“The best thing for being sad," replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, "is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn.”

T.H. White, The Sword in the Stone

I've read the book many years ago, but only recently have I come to fully appreciate the wisdom of this.
“Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.”

Albus Dumbledore.
A person can survive three weeks without food, three days without water, three minutes without air, but only three seconds without hope.
- Crisis is when you don't want anything and you just wish you wanted something.
- That's nothing. Now, when you don't even want to want anything - that's crisis.
- That's not crisis, that's a total screwup.
(What Men Talk About)

That's the secret to survival. Never go to war, especially with yourself.
(Yuri Orlov, Lord of War)

Do not mistake the stars reflected in the pond at night for the sky.
(Vilgefortz of Roggeveen, The Witcher Saga)
Admittedly, I'm not collecting quotes and I don't read poetry, but for some reason I remember these two:

“Children are dying.”
Lull nodded. “That’s a succinct summary of humankind, I’d say. Who needs tomes and volumes of history? Children are dying. The injustices of the world hide in those three words.”
Deadhouse Gates by Steven Erikson

Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven by William Butler Yeats:

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

It is hard to decide which quotes I can consider favourites, so I will post a few lines from a novel I was reading last night. I feel that they are really beautiful.

'Why are you dancing in the road?' I asked.
'Because I am happy, that's why,' said Pitamber.
'And what makes you so happy, my friend?'
'Because I am dancing in the road,' he replied.

This fellow is drunk as well. The previous line was :

He was very merry, and quite drunk.
I need to read more of Saint-Exupéry, Flight to Arras was brilliant.

That could explain why he was dancing in the middle of the road. ;)
