I was wondering whether there is anyway I could download an expansion or dlc without having the game?

Obviously, there would be no intention of playing it without the game but I see no reason why this would be restricted. I ask before I purchase.

Noooo, but. There was a stink a few years back by a particular member about this very matter: why can I not buy the DLC even though I don't have the base game?

It's not that you won't be able to download it. It's that you wouldn't be able to purchase in the first place. Which means that you can try to buy without having the base game, and if it works then you oughta be able to download it.

And there might be a buy-it workaround if you purchase as a gift.

Someone will double-check me on those details, I'm sure. The rest of it? I'm not sure. ; )

1. You can't directly buy a DLC if you don't have the base game here.
2. You can buy the DLC as a gift, but you will be unable to redeem it to your account without owning the base game here.

Thank you. You're right though. Although, at first it seems that you could buy the game, when I go further into the checkout process, it prevents me from purchasing the DLC. Darn.
