For everything I long to do / No matter when or where or who.

Larian Studios have done it again! Rejoice, you handful of people who haven't yet tried what was arguably the best RPG of 2017, for Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition has arrived, FREE for all owners of the base game. Newcomers can benefit from the 10% discount running until September 9th, 5 PM UTC.

The amount of additions and improvements that it brings is nothing short of staggering, so here's a list which almost does them justice:

- A new Story Mode option for those who don't like spending too much time with combat considerations while enjoying the world and atmosphere. You can alternate between modes at any point.
- New and reworked fights!
- Tutorial expanded to work players through the gameplay specifics more smoothly.
- Tons of new lines recorded for this Edition.
- Significant performance optimization.
- UI changes, journal revamped.

Plus, a mini DLC rides forth with this update: brave brave Sir Lora, the squirrel Knight companion who's dreading the coming of the Great Acorn, will let you become his valiant defender. Previous owners of the game get this DLC for free.

Note: You will be able to choose between the Classic and Definitive Edition from the launcher when you start the game.

I cant crossplay between GOG and Steam.
best game in the whole little world! <3
So the "definitive edition" comes with two DLCs? Perhaps I should wait for the "legendary ultimate deluxe enhanced definitive edition". Well, I'll at least wait for a Linux port.

EREBOGOG: I cant crossplay between GOG and Steam.
It's probably because you use the offline installer. The game received a hotfix on Friday night, and this hotfix should be available both on GOG Galaxy and Steam. However, the offline installers and updaters have to be created by GOG staff, which is why they usually only appear during regular working days. So it should appear some time tomorrow.

The game only supports multiplayer if everyone has exactly the same version.
Glad to see the Definitive Edition here, and thanks to Larian for getting it free!

But i don't like having it packed up with the standard version and even less having this last one removed from our libraries without warning (and a day before this announce!!)

I would have liked much more getting what you did with DOS, a standalone for new version and be able to keep both installers (smaller) alone and just choose which one i want to install and play.

About the DLC, which i got it for free (thanks again!), i have to agree with others that a Definitive Edition should mean a single package and no DLC's apart. I don't see that getting the DLC for free for previous owners is unfair at all, but those "Definitive", or "Legendary", or "Complete" or "Diamond" (...you know what i mean) editions which have DLC's to buy apart...are not definitve editions at all. This is something we could expect from other publishers not going to mention because some are also here on GOG, but not from Larian itself, and it's a bit disappointing.

Finally, about the new bugs (and old "inconveniences" from the standard edition), there's already a hotfix on Steam since Friday (and i assume also if you use Galaxy), so it seems they are going to be updating the Definitive Edition a bit, at least, but at this point they are not going to change any of the old "inconveniences" or most commented problems about combat, crafting, items, etc which i agree needed a bit of a redesign.

So, i would also advise against playing the Definitive Edition until it's a bit more stable wihout the new bugs introduced. And please, can we get back our last standalone installers for the Standard Edition?

jmaebe: Do you mean that you paid for a boxed version as a Kickstarter reward, but never received it?
avatar
Trid: Nah, I mean that I still hope for box version release here in Poland. :S
Original Sin 1 is lonely on the shelf but I guess it will never happen and it's shame because I would love to play it. :/
There's only a boxed version of the original Kickstarter reward, and one for the consoles. The regular PC version indeed has not been released as a boxed version anywhere, afaik.

Definitive edition isn't GOTY edition. It's just heavily patched&updated version of the game. I don't know where did you get an idea that it's GOTY with all DLCs (well, actually all of one, extreme minor DLC).
That's it? That's the "enhanced"/definite edition?

Some UI impros, a bit of recording, and another ridicu-yawn character...? That's all they thought needs an improvement?
Well, DOS2 for me, especially after the first game with it's potential, was quite the letdown and this edition continues delivering exactly that.

Can't say I'm not highly disappointed. :(
So is this game finally bug free and fully updated?

GOG has deleted all old updates, and i didn't bother to reinstall. Is it worth reinstalling now or is there more updates on the way?

Guess this answers my question, will wait until it's fully fixed/updated.

Last time I downloaded the game it was like 22gb and now its 44gb. So for the sake of smaller download, I would also like the standard and definitive edition separated.

I can see two DLCs, albeit one of them is basically goodies. Definitive, to me, implies that it has got all the stuff that has been made for the game. Ultimate, GOTY or definitive are basically synonymous in this regard. And all of these terms have been used to describe what turns out not to be the final, definitive, ultimate version of the game, and this seems to become more and more common. The irony in this case is that the definitive edition isn't even definitive at launch. It's the ever more loosely, less appropriately, used words that I'm primarily against. Politics and marketing is full of this crap and I hate it.

By the way, what's up with this thread? I didn't get any notification of the reply I had received, and the thread doesn't seem to get bumped by posts.

Completely agree! I mean, bugfixes are always nice, but for D:OS1 the enchanted edition basically reworked game; here, after 10-15h I've dropped it; the core issues with base game (unbalanced fights, skills&items) remains.

I'm not getting notification also, but there's some recuring problem with article-threads on forum; sometimes they show 404, sometimes they're dubled, sometimes they don't show any posts at all...

Well I do agree that more often than not such terms are aluding to original game + all DLCs (or half of the DLCs, *cough* borderlands 2 *cough*), but Larian was very clear from the beginning that definitive edition is basically "big update to original game" (similary to enchanted edition for the first original sin); however if you haven't followed them then indeed it can be misleading.

I'm not counting artbook and such as DLCs as they're not additional in-game content and thus they're not enchanting your experience when playing the game.
I went to start a new game playing as a custom male elf and I can't seem to get the voice to change. Despite changing it in the menu and making sure it's in 'scholar' or 'trickster' it appears to be stuck on warrior (at least I think so, it's the deep voice). Don't remember having this issue in the classic edition. Happening with male human too.
