I haven't played either (Divinity: Original Sin, nor Divinity: Original Sin 2). The latter seems to be quite better than the first one. Question is: right now, I only have money to buy one of them: should I buy Divinity: Original Sin for continuity, or just go straight for Divinity: Original Sin 2 because it's really better and the story of the first does not matter much?

The whole Divinity family has more than the 2, if you wanted to take a journey throughout Larian games from the very beginning.

That being said, you can more than enjoy Original Sin 2 on its own, since it takes place about 1200 years after the first game, so you won't miss any story related connections.

Yep. I already played Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity and Divinity 2. Hopefully in the right order. :)

Thank you for your answer on the Original Sin 2!
I enjoyed Divinity OS 2 more

Go with "Divinity: Original Sin 2". :)

First one is absolutely fantastic game with best music. But the second one is even better on so many levels.

Do get the first one eventually. It is very much worth playing at least once, that's for sure!
Part 1 is a much better game than part 2.

Part 2 has a marginally better story, but its story is still not that great, and definitely nothing new/original/innovative that hasn't been done millions of times before.

And Part 2 also has much worse pretty much every else (other than graphics).
Hmm, I wish I could mark 2 conflicting postas as solutions - different perspectives is always nice, thanks people.

The better game is entirely relative and I doubt there is one "true" answer to "solve". Some people liked the setting of DOS 2 better. Personally I liked DOS 1 more. I found the "twin soul" thing (creating and playing as two main characters in the first game instead of one) plus the story / main plot was a lot more interesting. Some people found the light-hearted banter of DOS1 "cheesy" but I thought it gave the game a lot more charm than DOS2's infighting companions. Some people liked the mechanics of DOS 2 better, but I found the "double shield" thing plus the altered stealth mechanics more tedious & grindy than "evolved". I definitely preferred the soundtrack of DOS1 (RIP Kirill Pokrovsky). They both have their fans though, so it's anyone's guess which you'll prefer more personally.

Get the first one now, and when you finish it, you'll probably find the second one with a better discount.

If you played all the way through Beyond Divinity, then from here on in it's pure bliss for RPGs (just don't buy Dragon Commander). I'd suggest starting with the first as it will help give you a grounding in how the elements play, and how you need to think about combat. I'm sure you could beat the second without that, but also the first really is "the start" of the whole thing, so it seems a sensible place to "start".
Alright, made my decision. Thank you all!

Have a key for D:OS1 up for a trade if you haven't bought it yet. Same value trade.
