Instead of a delete I would like to be able to organize my game library not simply in order of purchase but group series together with their sequels or prequels.

i could give you a scenario :

first i added Ultima IV (Free one)

quite sometimes later i bought this pack

So : after that you have 2 entries in your library for Ultima IV

Some months ago i asked to the support if the free version could be removed from my account; the answer was : "it's not possible with our current database" (short answer), the solution already mentioned there is to hide the free one. Not really an issue in the end, just asked IF it was possible.

But now a "fun" fact : the free one is part of the GOG Preservation Program, the other one (part of the pack) is not yet.

Hiding unwanted games is more than sufficient if you're not using store-based launchers.

Even if you're using something like Playnite, which is a third-party launcher, there's a hide option hide games if you're synching with store accounts. Just edit the game you want to hide, go to the advanced tab, then click on the checkbox next to hidden. I'm sure that other third-party launchers likewise have the option to hide unwanted games, but I'm not going to look into how to hide games on launchers that I don't use.


Oh and since we're in a mood again:

1. Epic doesn't even let you hide games in their launcher.

2. Steam claims to have the option to permanently delete a game, but it's a lie. There's a self-serve function to restore a game that was permanently deleted, which would mean that it was never deleted in the first place. It's just a mislabeled hide function.

Among the three stores - GOG, Epic and Steam - Only GOG gives you a hide option and is honest that it's only a hide option.

While true, this is the kind of functionality which will likely satisfy most people asking for a delete function the most.
Appearing to delete a game, but in actuality only deep-hiding it from the client side is an optimal solution for both sides, really. It doesn't actually delete things so staff rarely has to clean up messes when the shit hits the fan, but it buries purchases so the customer isn't bothered by it being associated with their accounts ever again.

There's actually nothing saying got couldn't keep the current system, but also implement this deeper one as well which gives customers more choice as to what they'd like.

Saying "but GOG's one is the most honest" serves nothing in this argument. People are already asking for more than what GOG is already offering. So if they say the current hide function is insufficient to them, then for them GOG's approach isn't enough.

Well the gog version might be more "honest", but at least the version steam has means I'm not being bothered with the game anymore. Unlike with the gog hide function, where I always get update notifications for the hidden stuff, which then need to be cleared.

Would love a delete function.

So claim whatever you want, but that doesn't change the fact you aren't assessing things very well.

And you are the one who set the tone, with your poorly thought out attack on GOG.

As I said, this topic has been discussed here many times before, and all the relevant angles looked at and valid replies given.

Funny that, you complaining about me complaining about you complaining about GOG. ;)

And you want GOG to be more like Steam ... seems like you are afraid of change yourself.
Especially as deleting a rented game on Steam is not the same as deleting a game you own at GOG.

Or perhaps I am just a cynical grumpy old man, that gets a bit fed up with some ... that, I can admit to. :P
