LiefLayer: I only played in Dark Souls 1 of course on mac (playonmac wine port) of course with keyboard (no mouse).
It's a nice game, but a little overrated. However, even without fix, play it with keyboard was easier than they said.
However, from the technical point of view it lacked many points:
The story line (just a sketch, nothing more)
Technical problems (30 fps, town infamous etc ...)

From dark souls 3 I would like 3 things:
1. multi-platform support, mac and linux, with new graphics engines (Unreal engine, Unity3D), should always be supported.
avatar
Luisfius: Believe it or not, the souls games actually run on a Sony multiplatform framework.

2. a better story line. they have one of the best existing gameplay, if they can improve must do so where they are made worse.
avatar
Luisfius: Fuck no. The whole deal with ALL of the Souls games is that they are intentionally vague. And they do not force feed you anything. They do not have any pre-conceived explanation.
It is up to you to decide everything, or to hunt for tidbits. If it actually gave you everything it would lose its strength.
As it is, it has a VERY strong setting rife with openings for interpretation. The stories are very good for what they are.

3. A resolution of technical problems ... and maybe when one decides to use the keyboard suggestions should relate keyboard keys not the gamepad.
avatar
Luisfius: The games were designed with an input in mind.
They can be adapted, but it is going to be awkward, like fighting games on keyboard, doable, but far from ideal.
Or racing games.
Or third person action games such as Devil May Cry or Bayonetta. They can work with mouse and keyboard, but it is never going to be as good as with other input methods.
That being said, not changing the input prompts to keyboard icons is lazy and bad. Even actual bad ports like Saints Row 2 got that right.
1. I've never been interested in the console. However with the new game engine (Unreal engine, Unity3d and others) can easily have both console and Windows, Mac and Linux.
Just because everything runs on playstation (using OpenGL) there should be no problems porting.
The fact that 41 of 64 games are compatible with Mac, in my account gog, shows that now make porting to Mac and Linux is no longer a taboo ...
Not only are there Witcher but also other games like: Metal Gear Rising, Batman, Dreamfall and others have been ported.
For all the old games just use wine.
In practice in recent years come out so many games for mac and linux (in addition to the ones you can port with wine) that if a game does not come out for mac or linux I avoid buying it (once I would have installed it in bootcamp).
Moreover, as I said, there's no work to do ... when you have the PC version, change the target of exports of the graphics engine and you have the mac and linux version (with the best graphics engines like Unreal and Unity3d) . So the problem is only of those software companies that currently do not use modern graphics engines.
So this desire is more than valid, if they do not patience, I will give up dark souls 3 (I have a list of 50 games still to play).

2. One thing does not exclude the other. The exploration and the various mysteries there may also be with a great history (just look at the witcher 1).
I'm not talking about a guided play, I'm talking about a game with more dialogues to deepen the main story (as in dlc with goth). In dlc they have already done such a thing, the only need to do better, and throughout the game.

3. It is a matter of preference but rpg everybody knows that you play better with a mouse and keyboard. The controls of an RPG are many, with a keyboard, you may distribute them well with a controller absolutely not (so much so that you have to weigh press the analog stick).
Then it is clear that Dark Souls is designed for gamepad, in fact, the acceleration of the camera is a mess ... but if you take away the optimization problems dark souls is much more comfortable with a keyboard (like devil may cry (although this is not an RPG. In fact it is a game that goes well with both gamepad with keyboard), the witcher 1 2 etc ...) there are a lot of games in the third person designed for PC.
But personally I found it quite comfortable with the keyboard (in the end was optimized better than Metal Gear Rising, in fact metal gear the camera could not be remapped), also because of the auto-lock on enemies (in practice, defects of the camera were invisible in the gameplay) ...
In short, here the only thing to change was the icon of suggestion.
Then everyone decides what to use, I will continue to use the keyboard you the gamepad....
I think Plague of Gripes has said best how this is gonna turn out if the Souls style works as a "series"

And bloodborne was the best example of it
Monkeydelarge are you trying to bait someone?
Or do you just like to "Ctrl C Ctrl V"?

Any Souls are good souls. Takes a bit to understand, however once you know about the basics it becomes one of the most enthralling additive games out there.

I have a thing for remembering names - if I dont remember it (in a case when I should) I simply do some research.
Comes from long term music industry / venue work.

"Hey I know that guy... but why?"
*searches stuff

"oh yeah, you had a shaved head last time you played here in that band: [insert crappy "metalcore" name], you were banned for life after [impregnating bosses daughter / molesting hobos / selling drugs / selling shit drugs / putting drugs in otherpeoples drinks / not giving the local barstool any drugs and so on].

I want a Demon's Souls port to PC first.
Oh yeah, I remember this thread.

I guess I have something to look forward to in April.

I do too, but I seriously doubt it's going to happen anytime soon...if ever.
Well, personally I found DS1 PC one of the worst experiences using a computer. Everything about it waas so bad on every level. So to me I cannot consider this product for PC. If I pick it up for the PS3 at some point, will try it again, but right now, I have no enthusiasm for the series.
Dont want to start a riot or something, but I have to say I cant stand the whole franchise. :/

Not happening. Your best hope is loading up a PS3 emulator.
