paladin181: It is underhanded because it locks content away from people for not being early adopters. It it an attempt to bribe people into buying a game before any reviews are out. It is using manipulative tactics and manufacturing false scarcity (only available through preorder, once the game is out, this content will be gone!) and abusing people's FOMO to coerce preorder sales. CDPR says buy if you like, don't if you don't. We'd like it if you did but no pressure. People are buying it like hot cakes. Tons of preorders without any coercion required. Apparently, being decent human beings makes customers want to invest in you.
GameRager: To me that's less underhanded and more good salesmanship...if they know how to sell to people and make a buck I see no problem with it as long as the content is minor(skins/etc) or is major but available to all. Also not all pre-order content is "locked away" from everyone. Most is available to everyone else for a fee.
As for people being worried it's scarce and not doing due diligence when looking into it...well that's partially on the consumer for not being able to tell what's scarce and what's not/etc.
DetouR6734: No, it's every type of game turning into a micro-transaction. Sure people should have a choice, but whats my choice? to accept it or not play? is that what it is?
So they have a choice which is always yes please, and i either have to accept it or not game. Yeah great fucking choice.
GameRager: Same thing....you dislike the current gaming trend, so I suggested people should shift it the other/a new way if they desire. People do not desire or not enough, though, as it hasn't shifted back/a new way yet. So they have a choice which is always yes please, and i either have to accept it or not game. Yeah great fucking choice.
And you have a choice....buy the kickstarter/etc projects/games that do stuff you like and support, and don't buy what you don't support. The market won't always be in a way that's favorable to all, and when it goes a way one dislikes one has to just bear with it as others do when the market shifts a way they dislike.
As for kickstarters, non of them really take my fancy it's few and far between.
Gaming will become a subscription service, and then what? will you be happy about that?
The only way to change the market is by not spending money and we have too many willing to throw it away.
