Despite the fact that I am really not looking forward spending time with my family and honestly stopped carrying about the holidays in general, I wish you all hopefully not awful holidays and also hopefully some stuff that you`ll enjoy.

The fact that this wasn't posted from America slightly disturbs me.

For 2 years now our family has adhered to a strict no presents policy, it feels very good not having to buy crap.

Yeah, because you're Jewish! Duh!

The way I look at it, you're under no obligation whatsoever to buy somebody a present. If you do so, you're doing it of your own free will because you feel like it. If they're upset about not receiving anything and feel like you have to buy them something to prove you love them, that's on them and tells you something about their character. This is why I give people gifts outside of holidays, to show them that I actually care about them and aren't just doing it because of some sort of bizarre social pressure.

About five years ago, we switched every present to donations. No Stuff, some people / animals / nature in need get a bit of help, and it simply feels better than buying the latest Fondle Me Elmo or whatever crap du jour is the next best thing. And we spend more time shooting the bull (read: drinking) with family and less time opening gifts that we don't particularly want.

The ghosts of Christmas past, present and future always grace us with their presence.
