Some older programs only change side to side camera and you have to use arrow keys to turn objects or characters as in games. I want to use side to side mouse movement to make a character turn left or right. how can this be done>

It's up to the game developers to allow such things in the menus. If you don't see it, they probably didn't bother. Maybe if the game is moddable you can find a mod that does so.
