I just finished Two Worlds Epic Edition for I dunno the third or fourth time I guess, but have never played Two Worlds II before. So now I think maybe it's time to try.

First of all, I can't, or if you prefer, simply will not, ever, play a game that utilizes WASD movement using keyboard/mouse. Never. I have two controllers, an XBOX 360 for Windows controller and a Logitech playstation like controller. For old games utilizing WASD I am able to use the profiler software to map keyboard keys to my Logitech controller and that is how I've always played games like Morrowind, Oblivion, Two Worlds 1, etc. But according to the store page here at gog and at Steam for TW II it comes with full controller support. I can't find anything in the manual about it and it's not recognizing my Logitech controller at all.

Now I assume that's because it needs to be an XBOX controller, which is okay by me, but before I go to the trouble of asking for help (I am bedbound) to get the other controller and hook it up I was wondering if anyone else has played it using an XBOX controller. Because again the manual doesn't mention controller support so it's unclear to me how to know which buttons do what and whether or not the game can realistically be played with a controller, that is can I play the whole game, confront all obstacles in real time, using ONLY a controller or will a keyboard be necessary? For reference I can play every aspect of Two Worlds just holding a controller in my hand and can accomplish every in game mechanic. Reading the manual I fear there may be some tasks that no matter what you do a keyboard is required. But mainly I was wondering if anyone had any experience playing TWII using just a controller?

And whether anyone had some helpful tips (without spoilers) I would appreciate that too.

Do most folks feel one or two is the best of the series? I know I really, really, really, liked the first one.

A quick search found a thread that says it works just fine and another claiming otherwise. There is that last post in that second one, saying plug in before starting the game, so see about that.

As for which is better, first one, no question. Was saying that the second "fixed" what wasn't broken in the first one and left what was. Spell crafting's cool, though the vast majority of the available options won't actually be useful, but besides that... True, there have been some recent DLCs, no idea about that, having played it back then, but doubt they could have fixed the core problems.

PS: Found more mentions of needing to start the game with controller plugged in for it to see it, and that doing so entirely disables mouse and keyboard controls.

The manual I have does have mention controller support; see attachment. I have it on Steam since GOG doesn't have the Mac version. I checked and it works with my 8BitDo in xinput mode (xbox), but not dinput (which is what I assume your Logitech is using). It does indeed seem to entirely disable mouse/keyboard when using a gamepad, though I only checked the menu. I've had it installed since I finished Two Worlds four years ago, but haven't got around to playing it yet, so I can't speak as to how well it plays with a gamepad, though that's not something I would ever do with this sort of game anyway.

thank you for those links. Definitely sounds promising. It is late now here so I will have to wait until tomorrow to get some help to hook up the XBOX 360 controller but I am going to give that a go. If I have to I can use profiler for the Logitech controller like I've used so many times before but that's much more difficult than if it just recognizes the xbox controller and I'm good to go.

And yeah, I too really really liked one. It's just got a "fun factor" to it that keeps me coming back every so often. It's charming, mayhap too easy (lol) but dog gone it it's just plain fun. I've never played one on hard so that is going to be my next challenge on one. I play perma death in almost all games (I just can't roleplay dying in game and reloading a previous save.... like what happened.. all that stuff that happened from that last save to dying didn't happen? Or it was a dream?) Well I'll be darned. I confess to not looking through the whole manual as I scrolled down to the english section and read every page of that. But the page you show in your post is all the way at the end after I dunno how many other languages. I didn't see it but now do, so thank you. I'll get the other controller tomorrow and try that.

I mean, it's literally mentioned on the third page of the manual, under "Table of contents" - so: in your preferred language, English.

It even gives you a page number (76) which, admittedly, is actually page #78 in the PDF reader, but nonetheless...page 76(ff) is mentioned in German, English, and Spanish, so... Well,...skipping pages of a manual is kinda not very helpful, if one is looking for something in a manual.

Two Worlds 1 is super messy and painful, Two Worlds 2 is pretty charming. The magic system is still one of the better systems out there that few games even came close to trying

I've found that many games just refuse to work with Logitech controllers, so I ended up just buying first-party Microsoft ones and have had zero issue. If a game says it has controller support, the fool-proof method is to use a Microsoft one.

edit: I should say, third party controllers, not just Logitech.

Two worlds 2, i heard the story was a bit more confusing, and a bait & switch with who is the enemies, the half-orc romance hinted that never comes to pass, etc...

Speaking of "Bait and Switch":

I will always remember the patch a couple of years after release, that removed all the existing cheats, and replaced them with microtransactions. That even hit the GoG Version, but if i remember correctly was rolled back here.

That killed any and all motivation of ever trying that game again.

No, just one that supports xinput. I have an old Logitech pad that can switch between dinput and xinput, so it works with all games (some old ones don't do xinput). I currently have a 8BitDo gamepad that does the same thing. Why buy multiple gamepads when you can just buy one that plays everything?

Agree 100%.

I've forgotten the storyline... and definitely hated the last boss fight...

... but...

... the magic system is GREAT... and the exploration was very interesting (in fact I explored a lot far amount "outside the map"). And... that main character... the sarcasm!

Will definitely play this game again one day.

Playing the game with the dev console on too, this needs a mention. Best spell is spawning boats out of thin air to crush your foes, 11/10 GOAT

I sure find that baffling, people finding the exploration in 2 nice but not in 1. I mean, 1 was just about all about great exploration, while in 2 it's so restricted and not worth the trouble...
Then again, hardly the first highly unpopular opinion I have even in gaming. (And in fact liking TW1 is unpopular enough, regardless of reason or comparisons.)

Really? Heck I have always loved TW1.
