There's still some hard SJW/alt-right viewpoints conflicting at every possible opportunity, though, which I guess is the downside of the secret rulers of GOG's general forum leaving.

Personally, I went into el lurko mode for a long time, said some stuff here and there, and now I'm back, much like you. I try to stay out of the political discussions which consist of Curly and Moe (and variations therein) telling each other they're wrong, and anyone who doesn't pick one side or the other is socially irresponsible.

Pretty much like it's been since around 2012, just slightly more political because of the polarization of US politics in the past year or two.
You're kidding, right? It's been this way for more than 2 years. It's just been gaining more and more speed, but i assure you it's not just the US. Look at the UK or the rest of Europe right now. Sure, the US is more ludicrous, having almost tabloid like headlines, but we've always been special.

Some things:
* GOG Galaxy is now a thing.
* The forum is now moderated. (Recently, the previous forum mod suddenly disappeared (there's a likely reason, but I won't get into this in this thread), and for a day, things went to chaos, and a spammer posted a bunch of posts with slurs in them, but we fortunately have functional moderation here.)
* Politics discussion not related to games is no longer allowed on the forum. This new rule resulted in the closure of many long-running topics, including one that had a title similar to "The #[redacted] news thread" (I redacted the controversial part).
* The game specific forums are still largely dead, except for a few. (There are some good ones, but there's also some that have at least one user who is anti-deep game discussion and anti-"play the game how you want".)

Did you completely miss the last part of my post you quoted, where I said it's "Pretty much like it's been since around 2012" ?

EDIT: Just realized you underlined my portion where I said politics are polarized here in the US. You can say or think whatever you want, but politics in the US were not nearly as bad as they have been since Trump got elected. The whole "Us vs The World" mentality so prevalent on both sides of the divide was not nearly so bad as it has been the past two years.

As far as the rest of the world, yes I do keep up on current events. This isn't the first time you've questioned me on the forums though, so I wonder what it is I did to piss in your cornflakes?

Welcome back, Reaver.

Got a whole crap-ton of games. Not sure uh-zactly when you went quiet, but some notables we've seen:

Kingdom Come, which started out a bit shaky but the developers seemed to have attacked the list of problems pretty quickly.

No Man's Sky, also shaky and missing features at release. Again, the developer didn't give up and many people really enjoy it in its current state.

Larian gave us Divinity Original Sin 2.

gOg originally took a pass on Opus Magnum, from a dev/pub that already has several titles here. The community gave a quite vocal "WTF! I mean, seriously, WTF?!?" and the game finally showed up.

"Visual novels" - whatever they are - are now here in large numbers. Some love it, some hate it.

Also...

The 10th anniversary site update is somehow more unpopular than the site shutdown stunt from when gOg went out of beta.

But still, a whole boatload of DRM-free goodness here.

I've always wondered what occurs behind closed doors to make these decisions happen. Any insight would be fascinating :D

I'm fairly sure they get loaded up on cheap liquor or rubbing alcohol before throwing a dart at the interns. The one that cries the loudest gets hands them the card with the results.

In case you weren't just being hyperbolic: I wasn't really aware of GOG back then, but I doubt that's true.
The forum's reaction to the "Good News™, everyone: we're packing full-blown ̶A̶I̶D̶S̶- Galaxy installers into a selection of popular games' standalone installers!" announcement was WAY worse than the reaction to the most recent site revamp, which would probably have trouble making the list of the top 5 outrage-inducing things GOG's done just in the few years I've been hanging around here.

The redesign is a more long-term irritant than the shutdown stunt (which, after all, only lasted a day or two). But the GOG head honchos haven't issued a jokey public "apology" video related to the revamp. ; )

Something to think about:

The forums got fewer posts durung the shutdown stunt than it did in the wake of the new redesign (this includes all posts, including (but not limited to) those complaining about the change).

Why?

During the shutdown, there were no forums, and therefore no posts about the shutdown (or posts in the first place) on the forum.

The site redesign, on the other hand, left the forums intact.
