Engerek01: who claimed original BG games had terrible sexist writing and needed to be fixed
No she didn't. That is a gross distortion of what she actually said.

Drosa: To me this is a list of reason of why they should have said no and built something else. For example, an enhanced edition of Anachronox or see if EA would let them put together a new story in the old Ultima universe.
That isn't realistic for a young and hungry company: You need some level of reputation, leverage, and connections to get work. From what I recall, Beamdog mostly consists of alumni from Bioware and their modding community. That means the bulk of the above qualities would be centered around Bioware's portfolio and friends at the company. If you don't have allies at a negotiating table, you will need a tremendous amount of leverage and reputation to get a favorable contract.

The resources that they accumulated from working on the Infinity Engine games may someday allow them to tackle the games you mentioned. Personally, I think that the Ultima Underworld games are in dire need of an overhaul. I very much hope that Beamdog/Overhaul Games would become a premier company when it comes to remastering games.
I've loved the Enhanced Editions so far, I'm currently playing BG2EE for the first time, and this month I finished BG1EE and SoD also for the first time. I'm a huge fan of all the Infinity Engine games, and after experiencing the EE I can say I'll never go back to the original versions. I can't wait to see PST get the EE treatment, hopefully followed by IWD2 to complete the series. :)
I almost got hyped when I'd read about a PS:T remaster, but based on previous Beamdog's enhanced editions, things don't look very promising!
Planescape is on a frail glass floor above hell, if they aren't cautious it will break.
It's scary the destruction they can cause to the IP.

amrit9037: I prefer original with mods but if original owners will get huge discount on EE then I have no problem with it.
Still pulling original from store/merging them with EE should not be done IMO.
Agreed!

I just hope it's a launch and not some kickstarter project or announcement for development.

“If there was something for the original Baldur’s Gate that just doesn’t mesh for modern day gamers like the sexism, [we tried to address that],” said writer Amber Scott. “In the original there’s a lot of jokes at women’s expense. Or if not a lot, there’s a couple, like Safana was just a sex object in BG 1, and Jaheira was the nagging wife and that was played for comedy. We were able to say like, ‘No, that’s not really the kind of story we want to make.’ In Siege of Dragonspear, Safana gets her own little storyline, she got a way better personality upgrade. If people don’t like that, then too bad.”
--------------------------------

As You can see, she claimed BG was sexist and needed to be changed an that is what the DID. Please tell me where is the distortion in my sentence?

It gives me shivers if she tried to "fix" fall-from-grace. No thank you.

So there are no men in the original BG that are just dumb fighting machines, scoundrels, machos or whatever one dimensional personality?

POLE7645: - About the original not being able to be sold separately, I find it to be an incredibly stupid point because that's the case for EVERY single game that has an updated re-release (remakes notwhistanding). And in some cases, we don't even get the originals (like Darksiders II, although it's understandable since the first port was horrible). Broken Sword 1 and 2, System Shock, Monkey Island 1 and 2 (no originals), Day of the Tentacle, Ori and the Blind Forest (no original), Oniken (no original), Strife, Darksiders 1 and 2 and Outcast. All of them have their re-release up front with their original either as a bonus or absent.

Leroux: The difference is that at least in the case of the older games, there were no alternative versions available on the market anymore. So the 'enhanced' re-releases were better than having nothing at all, an improvement over the state of not being able to buy any version of the game before that, while in the case of IWD and BG, previously available products were intentionally removed from the market because of the re-release. Although you do have to give them credit for still offering the originals as extras, it still makes the game more expensive even for those who aren't interested in the 'enhanced' version. And it's not like people don't complain about the original versions of Monkey Island not being sold separately here.

Btw, Skyrim and the Bioshocks are other examples for games that are still available in their original version, despite the release of remastered versions.
Divinity Original Sin did it. Even worse was the fact that the Enhanced Edition did not run on every computer that could run the base edition.

Can you name an example in the game? I don't care what she said, only what she wrote. I think at least she is to be admired for her transparency in that interview, as she acknowledges the fact she will write the expansion differently to the base game due to her inherent biases, as compared to the original writers, a trait that afflicts us all.

She said there was some sexism in the original game. That's a long way from "terrible sexist writing", which is what you claimed she said. She also didn't, as you claimed, say the original game's writing needed to be "fixed", and indeed they didn't change it; she merely talked about their approach to the new writing they did for SoD.

Can't understand all the negativity about the beamdog EE editions.

I was there when BG and friends was initially released.
I have the original discs.
I've bought the collection after, with all the expansions and additions.
I've bought the EE editions.
Probably the only case of games I've re-bought.

I've played all the versions and the EE feels quite right to me. The added contents were a nice surprise, and very enjoyable (wild mage!).

Sure: EE were bugged at release, but now I feel they are much better, and the contents are there.

There are lots of dev companies that are scam.
Beamdog seems to address its mess, even after quite some time, proving they care and nurse these masterpieces.

Instead of supporting them, you discharge a huge amount of ... crap, for no other reason than pure complain pleasure.
As long as they don't touch the damn writing, Beamdog can do whatever.

After Numa, anything Beamdog might do is like a nerf gun shot after a head-on collision with a concrete mixer.
So this is what Beamdog basically does to games with this magnitude? ;D
Here's the Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition trailer

https://youtu.be/G2wXLCIpFRg

Wishlist is here: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/planescape_torment_enhanced_edition
If the trailer is to be believed, any new content is going to be curated by Chris Avellone. I'm not as worried about any new content after hearing that. Then again, trailers lie.
