From the FAQ on the next BF game : https://www.ea.com/games/battlefield/battlefield-2042/faq

We’ll be evolving our world and expanding on the fiction through Seasons, each one lasting for about three months. Every Season will come with a new free and paid-for Battle Pass, delivering new content to chase after.

In our first year of live service, we will deliver four Seasons, with four Battle Passes, four new Specialists, along with more fresh content.
A season will be 3 months with each season having its own season pass. So basically, not considering any other updates, the game won't even stay in a constant state for 3 months. No time to wait for discounts if you want to reach a high rank in a season.

MP matches can be up to 128 players per match (64 on olde consoles) which means that on top of paying for all this BS, you're probably not going to have any meaningful impact on the game unless you get lucky (like in battle royale games).

EA can keep their games for all I care. And to think they used to make good ones back in the day.

Yeah but soon they'll be keeping their games literally as well; and I think this is a step towards that. I never lived in a world where EA wasn't evil but even as someone who wasn't playing games during their golden age, even I can see their decline.

I've actually never played a Battlefield game before, but seeing stuff like this just makes me happy that I don't care much about "AAA" titles anymore. It also reinforces the good decision I made when I chose to become a GOG only gamer.

I'll continue to spend money in this industry as long as I have interesting games here on GOG to buy that are DRM free, but when that day ends I'll be focusing more on my other hobbies.

Fortunately, GOG keeps me well fed, and I can't even keep up with all the interesting titles that do get released here.

They already have a subscription-based service, Play, which offers access to certain titles.
I used to like their games (especially sports) back in 2000s, nowadays it seems they are only focused on online, cash grabs and the likes. EA's time is long gone.

The only good thing EA could do for us on GOG is to release the pre-Origin Battlefield games( 1942, Vietnam, 2, and 2142) with their respective dlc. Those are gems that sadly got dusty as EA( intentionally or unintentionally) "forgot" about them. The online components did get taken down officialy, but the lovely Battlefield community has done an insane amount of work and each one has a healthy population now as we speak. If this will ever happen is another thing. EA has changed dramatically since the first time they released anything here, and not for the better... Cheers

Lemme crumple that ball of paper I have reserved for Post Origin EA again and then shrug.
Battlefield 1942 was awesome. One of my fave ever games. R.I.P. EA.
It's everything i hate in games with DRM, live Services and ever evolving. You ever miss the games where you knew what you got without the fear of the game becoming increasingly worse over time ?

Single player are the closest to that now with post launch patches almost always improving the game but this fucking abomination or everything EA does nowadays, no thanks.

I played B:Bad Company recently, and that is not a bad single player campaign. Battlefield 1 was pretty meh single player (although it did have a campaign). The rest are just multiplayer games, so no interest there.
As for the way EA are going, they probably thought they had to ramp things up after CDPR chucking cyberpunk in there, first time EA haven’t come out as most awful dev/pub in a year.
