How does Avernum Complete Saga relate to Avernum 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6? Does it contain parts 1-6, or is it a completely separate product? So, for example, if I buy Complete Saga, do I still have to buy, say, Crystal Souls? Thanks.

Avernum Complete Saga is a compilation of Avernum 1-6 and Blades of Avernum.

Avernum: Escape From the Pit and Avernum 2: Crystal Souls are remakes of Avernum 1 and 2, respectively. You'll have to buy them separately.
If I understand it correctly, Avernum Complete Saga is the original games (1-6 and Blades of Avernum) and the other two games are modern remakes of the first two games in the series.

So it depends what you're looking for, if you're happy with the original games then you should only need Complete Saga, but if you want the remakes then you should buy the other two and wait for the rest (which I believe are on the way)
Avernum Complete Saga contains all the old Avernum games: 1-6 and Blades of Avernum. Escape from the Pit and Crystal Souls are remakes of the first two of these games, and they're not included.

A word of caution: The games prior to Avernum 4 are quite dated, mechanically and UI-wise, so they might be harder to get into. That's probably why Jeff Vogel decided to remake the first three (again).

Edit: Double-ninja'd! Gyah!

$3 is still a pretty good deal for Avernum 4-6 alone. A decade ago or so I would have never thought them to be available this cheap. The times are a-changing.

Oh, and if you're unsure about the series, go to Spiderweb Software and download a demo.
Exile is the original series

Remade as Avernum, expanded with a second trilogy (Avernum Complete Saga)

Reremade the first 3 as Avernum: <subtitle>

All quality games, if the interface & graphics doesn't drive you crazy.

Edit:
And get the demo is a good idea too.

OK. Thanks :-)
I think I prefer the skill point system in Avernum 1-3 to the one found in the recent remakes.

Some people like the spell lists in Exile 2-3 better than the ones in Avernum 2-3.
