I just started Diablo 2 Resurrected a couple of hours ago, and something maybe seems odd to me. I thoroughly explored the Blood Moors, and it somehow seemed smaller than I remembered in the original game. Now, it has been a very long time since I played Diablo 2, so maybe I'm just misremembering, but it I felt that the Blood Moors in Resurrected felt to be about half the size of those in the original. Am I just imagining things?

Yes you are. :-)
Thanks. I get the impression maybe the Blood Moors were more elongated than in the original, perhaps to take advantage of the existence now of widescreen technology (i.e. same area, but more long than wide). Could this be what is going on?

Yes, the original game has a resolution of 800x600, so you might get the impression that it's bigger. Also the Blood Moors, as any other location can generate its parts differently from session to session, and sometimes you can get few obstacles in a middle of this location.
No. Why would they make it smaller? I think I read somewhere that Durance of Hate actually increased in size. This was around 2007/8, so it would have nothing to do with D2R. The maps haven't changed for the remaster.

I've since played through the Cold Plains and both levels of The Cave and they were the size I thought I remembered, so I was clearly worrying about nothing. (I do that a lot.)

I don't see why they'd change it. Most of the map data is in a csv file in Diablo 2, which specifies the size, connection, layout, etc. And it would be probably very easy to port the map generation function (likely a variant of Wave function collapse).

Being able to see further ahead may mean more stuff has to be spawned or can spawn less just off screen than the original version. Though i wouldn't be surprised if it creates N objects, with XY locations, and then actually does the full details once you are close enough for it to matter. Though on 4:3 i always remember immediately as soon as you could see them, they can see you, while the wider screen a little further out you could see them and plan before having to freak out.
