i know, both universe sandbox and space engine are sanboxes and i can see, there is some spaceship posibility in the second one, but i wonder if some of you tried both sandboxes and for some impressions..

which one is easier to control, more accurate, more enjoyable.. whatever.

simply, comparison of the available options - the strengths and weaknesses (compared to other one) of both as you feel it.

thank you, guys :-)

Might be worth posting this in the respective game forums, for a higher chance of being seen by someone who owns both games?
As I see it (them), the difference would be that in Universe Sandbox many aspects are customisable. As the description of the game says "you can create, destroy and interact". For example, to change the course of a meteorite to create collisions on planets and see what would happen depending on speed, distance, force of impact, etc..
Whereas SpaceEngine, I guess is more of a touring in the universe. You can't change something, just travel among them. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
This is how I interpret the descriptions.

But both simulations have not much in common unlike what you might think

Universe Sandbox is that, a sandbox where you experiment. Some kind of construction set, a gravity simulator where you create, manipullate, collide bodies etc. You also can observe "what if" scenarios or things which happened in the past regarding bodies movements and/or gravity.

In the other hand, Space Engine is closer of Orbiter or Celestia... Some of Kerbal, but without any proper game inside. It is an Universe simulator/3D navigation planetarium where you travel or zoom in out at will any portion, or body in a seamless universe including the planet surfaces.

Space Engine could fit well as a proper sandbox with a game in the vein of Elite.

Both are great sims, indeed but each one do different things

Both programs are not proper games. I mean the idea we have about a proper game with an story or ending

so, is there no possibility in universe sandbox to have and play with a pre-arranged universe? can you just start to make own gravitation systems with known space objects?

As Gudadantza says. Space Engine is like an encyclopedia, it's essentially a huge 3D star map.

Universe Sandbox is more of a small-scale laboratory where you can model physics events. Either actual ones (like a planetarium), or hypothetical ones (what if a black hole orbited earth as it collided with mars in the absence of the sun).

Scott Manley, a scientist videogame streamer of sorts, used both softwares for his astronomy videos, so it gives an idea of what they do and don't :

Space engine presentation : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Htyv6m9jaNY

Universe sandbox used in "what if moon fell on earth" video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0e_iLpENCM

It's not an either/or, both softs are precious and complementary.

More than "universes" you manage or create events, solar systems, but If I am not mistaken, not a whole universe.

Anyways, honestly I ran a previous license, version, of this program a lot of years ago. Maybe some things were expanded or the features wider. It is intended to see and manipulate the events at "god's sight".

And I guess there is some kind of pre arranged universe to experiment. But not exactly to travel into. You should be capable to load our solar system or other in a set period of time, and speeding or slowing time see how things evolve gravitationaly if you modify things.

aww, seems i badly need to own both anyway! :D

thanks folks
