The first game was pretty great. Dark Moon was pretty disappointing as well, as many handheld versions of major IPs are usually downscaled and stretched out. Luigi's Mansion 3 is at least a full scale game. It has decent length, great graphics, pretty mediocre music most of the time, and the atmosphere they are going for doesn't work because it doesn't really have one. "Zany and whacky" doesn't work if it's not funny or cute. If they were going for cartoonish generic they nailed it. There's some things here and there but I feel like a 50 year old at an amusement park by myself.

If the intended audience is children just coming out of toddlerhood however which the presentation would suggest, there's definitely a disconnect between that and the required skill to play. I guess that implies insult but that's not my intent.

I kinda knew better but I wanted to give the game a chance. I was hopeful after you get chased by king boo, because just his appearance alone is way better than his previous, let alone how he chases you in the introduction. That gameplay segment was really cool because it was actually a tad bit terrifying.

If nobody has played Luigi's Mansion 1, basically for simplistic and effective comparison, the first game is characterized by almost complete dark in every new/hostile area, and you explore/fight by turning off your flashlight to lure enemies closer and turning on your flashlight once they are close enough to make them vulnerable. In the second and third game you basically explore a brightly lit hotel and instead of turning off your flashlight you strobe it to stun ghosts. Also in the first game you had to worry about collision a lot when wrangling a ghost, but in the second game catching one ghost allows you to smack them into whatever else is around, usually making much of the game fairly easy.

While the first game maybe isn't as scary as an adult, it was at least still creepy, and certainly far more challenging.

I'm on the 13th floor. I'm finding it hard to continue but I don't know what else to play. I beat BOTW and Odyssey.
