Hiya!

Got 278 games on steam, collected them since the very start of Steam library.
Now, Since XP support for Steam is ending and I'd like to keep my XP machine usefull, I'd be delighted to use GOG connect. Problem is, I'm on the move and I can't use my XP machine, and it's barely configuered. So I need to act fast.
Now, why do I want to use an XP machine? Wel, for better compatibility and the use of EAX, for example. Also, just fun.

But, yeah, GOG Connect doesn't detect a single game I can use.

Is it possible I need to have the Steam games actually fully installed before GOG Connect can detect it?
My SSD space is scarce and I anly install games I actually play.

Idea?

It won't detect anything cause there is nothing currently on offer in GoG Connect.
Ah, must've read over that. I only saw 'no games detected'.

My bad, thanks.
Some games on Steam are playable without having the Steam client installed. You can basically download them using the client, zip them up and transfer them to the computer of choice. There's a thread about that here: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/steam_games_you_can_play_without_the_steam_client

I give no guaranties that the game will run on Widows XP, however, as that likely differs between games. It should also be noted that GOG doesn't officially support Windows XP, so if the GOG version runs on that OS is also not guaranteed.
MightyPinecone,

I know you can compress GOG games into and.exe installer to play them without GOG Galaxy.
I would use that on XP :).

Or you're not talking about GOG Galaxy but the games themselves being optimised for recent hardware.
In that case... wel... bummer.

No, I'm talking about two things:

1) Games on Steam that don't have DRM and thus can be transferred from one computer to another once downloaded. This way you might be able to get some of your Steam games up and running on your Wndows XP computer. Compressing the (portable) installation is just a handy way to store such games, if you want to do that.

2) GOG tries to keep games running on supported OS, which doesn't include Windows XP, so it is possible that a game that ran previously on Widows XP receives an update that breaks that compatibility. A game developer on Steam might of course also decide to drop Windows XP compatibility if they so choose, but neither case is much of an issue if you already have a functional DRM free version of the game [installers/portable installation files] downloaded.

Edited for clarity.
