Awful people make awful video games, it's simple as that.

If you employ awful or incompetent or ideologically biased people that cannot keep their beliefs separate and out of the games they're making you will end up with awful games.

Games that, for example despite being based in and built upon very specific and regionally contained and established lore and tradition(al values) and drawing their strength and USPs from that all of sudden need to be more "inclusive", "diverse" and "progressive" and appealing to a "modern audience" that time and time again has proven to be non-existent.

Ending up with:
- disproportionate if not completely unrealistic numbers of NPCs of non-European ethnicities milling about in a low fantasy world that while being fictional is still explicitly modelled after medieval Europe where non-white, so called people of colour have been virtually non-existent
- characters being reduced to and/or identifying/expressing themselves primarily via their sexuality or sex, as if their lives depend on it
- hiding or downright removing scientific facts like male and female sex, replacing it with "body type A" and "body type B" during character creation
- "forcing behaviours" via introducing compulsory pronoun usage, which again, makes no sense in a low fantasy world explicitly modelled after medieval Europe whatsoever
- etc.

Well, I smell a lock tomorrow so either way, my final summation:

The "S" in the ESG is the source of all problems. It has no business being there and just comes off as preachy at best, escapism ruining at worst. While the merits of the "E" and G"" part could be reasonably debated on their positives and negatives, the "S" part will ultimately lead to nothing but dispute between the company adopting it and the end customer. Especially in the entertainment industry. Because unlike most other businesses, once the "S" starts seeping into the final product, it is quite apparent to see, usually accompanied by a drop in quality. And it will start seeping through, because the strive for ever higher ESG score is not a finite thing. Well, unless you literally reach the maximum rating, in which case, your goal is to maintain it. And the more you overdo it, the more pushback there is going to be, as evidenced by the past several years.

How can we force companies to start thinking about dropping the "S" part? By repeatedly making it clear that's not what the customers want. Closing our wallets and letting things bomb hard enough and often enough so the losses actually start equaling or outweighing the gains from going full ESG. It will seem like it does nothing at first, as many companies are all but taken over by those whose political views align with the "S" pillar, taking advantage of the favorable situation (watch the example vid I linked in my previous post). So the key is persistence. The market will correct itself eventually, but it won't happen overnight. We are already starting to see some initial "twitches" towards starting to cater to the customer again. The whole ESG/DEI/BRIDGE thing has an ever-growing negative connotation in the eyes of the general public. The first phase - them starting to hide the fact they follow these systems - is already here. It used to be flaunted everywhere as something universally positive. Not anymore, because companies are starting to realize, that is no longer the case. The key is to not rest on laurels, because hiding does not mean not still adopting it in the background (because again, investment money). So remain on guard and vote with your wallet. It will eventually become enough of an issue to force change. It's much harder to do for us than for the multi-trillion dollar holding companies, but not impossible.
