Hello!

Age of Empires IV was announced.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYwZ6GZXWhA

Where the previous games focused on a specific time period and region, it looks like this game will combine the elements of previous games together. IE, you can play from the bronze age to the colonial era.

Edit: And you can play just about any civilization. From the Native Americans, to the Romans, to the Japanese.

1 and 2 are the greatest of the greatest of the greatest.

3, not so much. :P

I'm curious to see what they do with this one.

jsidhu, BIG THANKS for the heads up :D

No problem!

I couldn't really get into AoE 3 either.

I gave up on 1. Once the AI got a hold of nukes, they would go nuts. Wasn't much of a game after that.

if you get bored waiting, the HD versions of #2 on Steam are pretty nice. The fan made expansion sets are hit and miss but worth a look. Some are pretty bad but some, like Dracula, are great fun.
I'm curiously optimistic, Relic is a well known studio, with many games under their belt.

Nukes??? In Aoe1? I think you're confusing this with Civilization...there are no nukes in Age of empires (unless you cheat, iirc you can get a nuclear-armed sports car then).
I really liked AoE2, too bad that isn't on GOG.
I would love to get the AoE games on GOG. Maybe I'm a minority, but I really liked 3.

It wasn't bad, just disappointing. The pre-sets on where to build stuff was just one of several small things that ended up really pissing me off.

In the end it just felt overly scripted. When you play any AOE 2 map there are always tons of ways to win it, not so much with #3.
Seems to be totally unclear though what AoE4 will be about, the trailer is more of a look back to AoE1-3.
I can't imagine they'll go from the stone age to the early modern era, that would pretty much break with the past games and be something more like Civilization or Empire Earth.

I'm pretty confident that's the direction they are going. AoE 1-3 covered just about every period of civilization. There's not many options when it comes to different places and eras they can go. The only thing I can think of is from 1900 to the 21s century.

If you are not opposed to the windows store (AoE 4 will also be excusive to the store), all the games are getting remastered / remade soon. Where as AoE 2 HD on Steam just upped the original graphics to HD, the new one will be complete re-do with better graphics, features, etc.

AoE Definitive Edition will be the first remaster and will be available Oct. 19...

I really liked the city progression system from AoE 3. It added an account leveling system which allowed you to unlock special abilities that you could use while playing skirmish, at least that's how I played it. Also I'll never forget the Lancers, a cavalry unit that Spain had, that ended up being my favorite unit from any game I have ever played. I liked it even more than the legion from AoE 1 or the teutonic knight from AoE 2.
