Andrew Sachs, the German-born British actor known for playing the bumbling Spanish waiter Manuel on Fawlty Towers, died Nov. 23 after a four-year battle with dementia. He was 86.

Had no idea at all that he was German. Recall as a kid watching him in Fawlty Towers, sort of thought he was a Spaniard, but something offish hehe.
RIP, the show was great and he played the best character in it.

Did you know when they translated Fawlty Towers into Spanish so it could be shown in spain, they changed Manuel into an Italian called Paolo.
Rest in peace, Andrew Sachs. You made many people laugh.

car door? R.I.P. funny man.
RIP. A man that can make you laugh so much but also such a quiet and good person.
Yes R.I,P., people can and will die sometimes they are also famous for something. But yeah I liked his work.

And in the Catalan version he was still called Manuel, but he was Mexican instead. :P

RIP Mr Sachs. :(

Was in Spain decades ago & it was on the hotels tv. Was weird seeing them all speaking Spanish :D
Can't say I was familiar with his work outside Fawlty Towers, but he did make me laugh in that one, and that's always a precious gift. Sorry to hear of his passing.

All but Manuel, actually :-P

As a spaniard it was amazing watching him with his original voice; his spanish accent was amazing. At first I thought he had spanish heritage or he was a competent spanish-speaker and I was genuinely surprised when I found out he learnt it shortly before the show.
RIP to another dead celebrity I don't recognize. You made so many people laugh, just not me as I've probably never seen Fawlty Towers, whatever that is.

Maybe I will watch some episodes of the series on Youtube, to celebrate your career.

Phew, I wasn't the only one to think he was a genuine Spaniard or similar \o/
