Well, after the big announcement of the patch 1.5 release, I thought of giving this game a shot.
And overall it is NOT satisfying.
The game is difficult to review since CD Project Red has tried out different approaches,
but sadly most of them are not working out.
The good features of Cyberpunk 2077 are:
+ That there is Cyberpunk
+ The main storyline with Johnny Silverhand (which I have NOT completely finished yet)
+ The attempt to visualize a future city, Night City, offering some cool locations
The mediocre features of Cyberpunk 2077 are:
o Vehicle handling as of 1.5
o Crafting, Perks, Weapons, Armor, Clothing and some Cyperpunk features like hacking cams & enemies and Co
The weak points of Cyberpunk 2077 are:
- That there is Cyberpunk, but it is only superficially implemented in Cyberpunk 2077
- Implemented Cyberpunk features are horrible, this whole part doesn't seem to be worked nor fleshed out. It is just shallow. (hacking by numbers is the crappiest stuff and Netrunners are without real effect, more like clown runners)
- The gameplay overall is horrible, Cyberpunk has no SOUL, it is not unique in any way (essentially you are playing a UPS/Postal driver simulator shooting up different places with no co-effect)
- The whole environment is not very reactive, mostly passive, and lacks any in-depth gameplay, if anything happens at all, you are just shooting your way through. Nothing else. btw, if you like FPS, Doom is much better in this regard.
- Police, Gangs, Syndicates, Clubs, whatever, it is literally without any deeper gameplay accompanying these groups.
In Cyberpunk it doesn't make any difference if they shot, shot back. The same virtual monkeys with different tags.
- These little info devices are boring as hell, these stories you can extract do not make sense a lot of times and are bland, they are literally filler stuff like SEO in Web Programming.
- All these locations you can visit, there is never anything interesting to discover, maybe these tarot cards, but that's it.
- The whole Cyperpunk 2077 feels like a Lobotomy - like all the parts have been cut from each other and act as a single entity, but nothing together, no side effects, co-effects. Simple, simpler, simplest, Cyberpunk 2077. Superlative par excellence.
At this stage, dear CD Project Red, Cyberpunk 2077 is an amazing Tech demo, but nothing more. 05/10
